Bio
Originally from South Africa (and speaking Afrikaans at home), I moved to Canada at age 12.

I started in the field of translation/editing/DTP in Ottawa after finishing a Bachelor's degree in Translation at that city's university.

I have lived in both Spain and Quebec for one year for language study, and have been in Japan for 11 years now.

I presently divide my time between university instruction of presentation skills, English through graphic design and business English (Digital Hollywood and Nihon Universities), Japanese-to-English Translation and writing instruction (Lakeland College, Sunflare Translation Academy), as well as freelance translation (Japanese-English, French-English).

The area in which I do most of my work at the moment is marketing, translating personal websites (ICanLocalize-- http://yosukeikeda.com/en/biography_en), tourism related sittes (http://www2.shiraishi-island.com/en/about-shiraishijima-island), blogs (Manfrotto--www.manfrottoimaginemore.com/2013/05/03/tibet/#.UZS8YNnS1Vc ) and fashion catalogs (Nissen --www.nissen.co.jp/).

I also translate in the technical/engineering area, for example bicycle/wheelchair technology (www.oxgroup.co.jp/oxgroup_site/wheelchair-lineup.html); in the manufacturing area (e.g. EV batteries); finance (financial reports), law (contracts, family register documents, marriage certificates); and finally in the environment area (recycling initiatives, sustainable engineering), and agriculture/horticulture (http://www.sakata100th.jp/english/episode/09/).

Because of my experience as an in-house editor and translator for various departments in the Canadian Federal Government (Ministry of Agriculture, etc.), I am adept at rendering translations using language appropriate for business and government. Also, thanks to my graphic design experience and training, I return translated documents created in a wide variety of formats with the original format (DTP, web, etc.) intact, in other words, fully localized. I also work as a translation checker (Japanese-Eng) for several companies in Tokyo and abroad (Spring Hill, Straker, RR Donnelley, StarJapan, etc.).
