Source text - French Plus jeune, j’avais comme vision de l’océan l’endroit inatteignable, un endroit de rêve. Je me rappelle l’avoir vu dans les films, représentés comme la quête extrême, dont seul les gens munis d’un énorme courage pouvaient vaincre les eaux déchaînées qui ne voulaient absolument pas de la visite de l’humain. Mais qu’en était-il en réalité? Ça, je l’ignorais. J’étais convaincu, jusqu’à ce que je participe à l’expédition de Students On Ice en 2018, que jamais je ne verrais l’océan de façon réel, puisque j’avais tendance à l’associer à l’inaccessible et le danger.
Cependant, ce que j’ai vue cet été là, c’est que, bien que l’océan et doté d’une incroyable puissance, celle-ci se fait discrète. Elle se déchaîne par moment, tout comme l’être humain le fait lui-même, mais c’est avec son côté paisible que je suis tombé en amour
La glace qui crépitait tout doucement au son de la pluie, une baleine timide qui faisait son spectacle lorsqu’elle savait qu’il n’y a personne pour la regarder mise à part quelques yeux curieux, un soudain vacarme d’un glacier qui se détachait de la banquise... puis un retour au calme, le silence, se sentir tout petit dans cet océan qui ne te demande que de respecter sa beauté, sa tranquillité, son environnement.
Le mieux que je puisse dire, c’est que non seulement l’océan a crée l’un des meilleurs souvenirs dans ma mémoire, mais il m’a aussi permis d’en faire ma propre version sur le film de ma courte existence jusqu’à présent. Et vous savez quoi? Je préfère cette version à n’importe quel film sur le marché, puisqu’elle m’apporte une sérénité.»
Translation - English When I was younger, I had a vision of the ocean as the unreachable place, a dream location. I remember seeing it depicted in films as the ultimate quest in which only enormously courageous people could overcome the raging waters that absolutely did not want humans visiting. But what was it in reality? I didn’t know. I was convinced, until I participated in the Students On Ice expedition in 2018, that I would never see the ocean in a real way, since I tended to associate it with danger and the inaccessible.
However, what I saw that summer was that, although the ocean has incredible power, it is discreet. It rages at times, just like human beings, but I fell in love with its peaceful side.
The ice crackling gently to the sound of the rain, a shy whale performing when it knew there was nobody to watch except a few curious eyes, a sudden din from a glacier detaching from the floe…then a return to calm, silence, feeling tiny in this ocean that only asks you to respect its beauty, its tranquility, its environment.
The best I can say is that, not only did the ocean create one of my best memories, but it also let me invent my own version of it for the film about my short existence thus far. And you know what? I prefer that version to any film on the market, since it brings me serenity.

Si jamais vous voulez pratiquer votre français grâce au théâtre et rencontrer du monde à Paris, je propose des cours Acting in French le mercredi de 7h à 9h à la Cathedrale Americaine de Paris à partir du 23 septembre. L’idee c’est d’apprendre en s’amusant dans une bonne ambiance.

If you're interested in practicing your French and meeting new people in Paris, I will be teaching the theater course "Acting in French" every Wednesday from 7-9PM at the Cathedrale Americaine de Paris starting September 23rd. The idea is to learn and have fun in a friendly atmosphere.
