I’m not very good at selling myself. Fortunately most of my clients come to me by word of mouth from colleagues, friends or other clients or through translation portals like Proz and they already have an idea of what I can offer. Past that first step, everything falls into place…

My wit and charm are pretty overpowering. Failing that, a bit of cleavage works wonders.

I put on my best behavior with clients. Some have even said they enjoy working with me.

I don't count the PMs who send out e-mails with impossible deadlines and rates I wouldn't have accepted 40 years ago. I can be quite rude to them.

Very good Aug 22, 2017

I enjoy excellent relations with lots of PMs, and was told several times I am pleasant and professional to work with.

This does not mean I go for 'the client is always right', and I don't put up with everything.

open, friendly and very straightforward Aug 22, 2017

I maintain mainly a very friendly relationships with my clients. They know I have no relatives except my children so they replace my family: for example, one of them appeared in the office last Sunday afternoon with a piece of cake and a mug with a nice little owl on it. She lives not so far from me and as she explained to me, they celebrated a birthday and they just returned from a vacation in Transsylvania where she bought me the mug with the little owl. (of course I was very happy!)

My owl collection contains a lot of different owls presented/sent by my clients from all over the world.
I see myself as an open, friendly and very straightforward person. Some people like it, some not.

Moderate to fair... Aug 22, 2017

...a bit like the weather.

That's the reason I work on my own, in my own little world, because I'm not that great with crowds.

Excellent Aug 22, 2017

Setting modesty aside, I usually surprise my clients with my professionalism and consideration. The Quick Polls have shown me many times that many collegaues refuse to do things I do regularly for clients, which they consider is not their obligation or they don't have to do and it's the client's problem. I regularly receive compliemnts from clients for this sort of thing, and I'm sure it has helped me keep several long-term clients I have. So yes, in this aspect I consider I'm well above average... I am good at establishing long term relationships, and I think I understand pretty well at which level the relationship can be brought from very formal to friendly...
On the other side I tend to minimize the email exchange or phone calls.
