A native English speaker from Australia, I gained early experience of other countries and languages by living in the Netherlands and United Kingdom for parts of my childhood and teenage years. My interest in language has been reflected since then in both voluntary and paid activities, including the following:

- translation
- proofreading, reviewing and editing
- assistance with TESOL (Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages)
- minor updating of 17th-century writings for republication

Besides an enthusiasm for language and a drive for perfection, I bring to my work a practical understanding of the translation process. This goes beyond familiarity with source and target language: it involves research, background knowledge, appropriate tone and register, consistency of style and vocabulary and a fluent final text that sounds perfectly natural to the target audience.
