Hi
I want to change my printer. For now I use a Lexmark C510. Not bad, but I need a printer with network connection.
So I'm looking now for a fast, reliable colour laser printer with a network card.
Have you any experience with particular makes?
Would you post them here?

Is that I have an HP Laserjet 1012 and I hate it. It makes all kinds of smudges on the left margin. It's like the ink doesn't stay in place.

It hasn't arrived yet - there is a 10-day delivery time - so I can't report on how good it is. One drawback is the size, it is very high, but that doesn't bother me nor does the noise (it is supposed to be loud). At the moment I am printing on my backup inkjet printer, which takes forever.

My Lexmark C510 is very loud. It is not huge, but it weighs over 30 kgs. I am dissapointed not with printer quality, but with the prices for toner & co. After having printed some 17k pages the photo unit seems to be worn out, even if it should have withstanded 40k pages. Last year I had a batch print for full page graphics, printed on special paper, so possibly this is one of the reasons.
After I looked on the market I tend to one of the following printers:
- Oki C5450n/dn
- Konica Minolta 5430DL
- Kyocera FS-C5016N
- Xerox Phaser 6300 / 8500 / 8550
However, the Kyocera is nearly too slow - only 16 ppm. The Phaser 6300 is nearly too expensive.
And the tests vary very for them. While the solid ink techhnology in Phaser 8500/8550 promises very good colour brillance user report, that the fonts are printed to "fat" and look, as they were bold instead of normal. Well, this is not so easy nowadays, if you want to get a printer, which has a good print quality and affordable price, followed by low page prices. If you go for professional printers or A3 printers and want to spend several thousands Euro for a machine, this will be easier... But for such a machine you have to print thousands of pages per month and not per year.

I bought an OKI C5200 color laser printer about a year ago. So far, all the printing has been flawless and it seems to be quite economical about toner usage. The printer itself cost about EUR 500 (they had a sale). It uses 4 cartridges of toner, which are expensive (color ones are about EUR 100, black one about EUR 70).
All in all, OKI is a perfect choice for me and I recommend it to anyone who is thinking about a laser printer.

That's the main use I give the printer. My husband, though, is in DTP, so many times he has printed full magazines to look at the results. They do look awesome. But do not take my word for it. If you go to an OKI dealer, I am sure they will print a sample for you to see the results in the different quality settings.

I don't see any pixelization, if that's what you mean. But if you are not sure about it, I can print a couple of pages in high quality/full color, scan them in a reasonable resolution, and pass them along.

The Dell special offer is 30% and not 20%. Although it is irritating having to order toners directly from Dell, I always have a spare so there is enough time to get it sent. There also appears to be a software setting for third-party materials (if available(?)). The black toner, which is what I need the most, is only 34.80€ for 4,000 pages. This is much cheaper than the toner for my Brother laser.

Thanks for the links. Unfortunately, neither seem to have toners for the 3100cn.
I used a 3rd party toner and replacement drum on my Brother. I couldn't tell the difference, except in the cost!
I just hope the Dell appears soon, the inkjet printer is driving me nuts.

It does not seem that Dell is making the printers on his own, but almost certainly buying them and branding.
Some older monochrome Dells were Lexmark printer with Dell brand on them. I´m quite sure the same will apply for your colour laser, so possibly you will get alternative toner, when you ask.
And they also offer refils, similar to those for inkjet printers. This might be a temporary solution, but sometimes not that bad.

Before that, I had been very satisfied with a Samsung monochrome laser printer (which I gave to someone who needed it).
The main reasons for buying the CLP-510N for me are as follows:

- price: about 350 €
the prices for Samsung toners are pretty high at the toner-direct.de site - the ebay site has all 4 colours for ca. 300 € with max. page yield of 5,000 p./colour to 7,500 p./black - compared to this: a colour toner cartridge for the Epson C3000 costs the same as a Samsung cartridge, but the page yield is only half of that the Samsung produces
I decided for it because I am not a DTP specialist but a translator who sometimes wants and has to print sth. in colour.
I don't print that much, so I don't need a printer that prints 20 pages in colour/minute.
The Samsung prints ca. 25 p./min. in B/W, and 6 p./min. in colour (I don't need more).
One nice thing that even doesn't seem to be possible with more expensive printers is the feature of printing watermarks and creating "Überlagerungen" (which I do with my business paper with a watermark that then appears flawlessly in the background).
All I can say is that I'm very satisfied and I wish I had more time to get into all the functions of the printer.

For the same reasons as you the next printer must have a networking facility.
We print about 1000 pages per month, sometimes heavy graphics loaded and then I don't have the time to wait for them, so a fast colour output is nice, but not the most important criterium.

According to http://www.druckerchannel.de/ranking.php?tabelle=laser_farbe your costs are quite high: 2,7 ct per page in black&white (is still ok), but nearly half a Euro (0,44 ct!) per colour page. This is too much for me - and this seems to be the biggest problem of cheap laser printer. They are cheap when you buy them, but not cheap anymore afterwards.
Thank you for your offer to send me samples. It is not necessary anymore, I found a dealer (http://www.vollfarbdrucker.de/) who will send me samples of varous printers. When the decision is taken, I shall let you know.

This way you can compare all the printers more individually.
(the Samsung then costs 10.33 Cents/page with 1,000 colour pages/month - the Dell 3100CN is ca. half the price/color page).
you always have to consider which company you trust, what you think of the service and quality, if it's easy to get and so on.

I looked there already, and it is quite interesting to see how expensive the printing may be.
OTOH, what they calculate are manufacturers prices - using altenative media helps to keep the costs down. This is my criterium for the printer choice now: the possibility to use alternative toner. Oki, Lexmark and Xerox can be feeded with them.
When I´m so far, I´ll post here.
