Dear John Letter May 22, 2012

Two forms of a letter with the same words but different punctuation:

Dear John:

I want a man who knows what love is all about. You are generous, kind, thoughtful. People who are not like you admit to being useless and inferior. You have ruined me for other men. I yearn for you. I have no feelings whatsoever when we're apart. I can be forever happy--will you let me be yours?

Jane

Love this letter May 22, 2012

People often post this letter when punctuation is being discussed and I just love it!It´s really amazing what a little dot or a small line can do to words .... and this is a perfect example.

Hope you enjoy the emailing I received recently:

We invited the strippers, JFK, and Stalin.
(photo of 3 strippers standing with Kennedy and Stalin)

versus

We invited the strippers, JFK and Stalin.
(photo of two luscious female strippers having the heads of Kennedy and Stalin)

the photos are better than this prose

"Had" and "and" May 23, 2012

Sentences without punctuation:

john where jim had had had had had had had had had had had a better reception from the examiners

With punctuation:

John, where Jim had had "had", had had "had had". "Had had" had had a better reception from the examiners.

Less impressive example with "and":

more space is needed between pig and and and and and whistle

(Landlord dissatisfied with way his pub sign had been painted)

Funny picture May 23, 2012

Regarding the funny picture, I don't see what's wrong with the second option. For me at least, it's obvious that they are 3 separate concepts. If Stalin and JFK really were strippers, it should be:

...invited the strippers: JFK and Stalin.

Right?

Paul.
