I was wondering ... Nov 9, 2020

... about cats myself. Dogs have loved ones, and not just human beings, but obviously their own families too even more.

Cats are much more mercenary, as De Niro tells Stiller in the film, which is undoubtedly a riot, as Thomas says, and which also proves De Niro can do any kind of role they throw at him. As likely as not he hates cats, but thought himself into the cat-lover role.

Gone to the dogs Nov 9, 2020

Actually my dog was just on the phone (yes, silly me letting him have my mobile number, I won’t get a minute’s peace now) and he said he read that book a few years ago, before he died, and you’ve gotten it all wrong, Tom. It’s all about the positive power of love, which every dog can relate to. And then he looked longingly at the Aero I was eating with big puppy-dog eyes, said I thought you were a vegetarian, and then asked me to wish you a nice day.

Consternation at Battersea Dogs and Cats Home in SW London this morning, when five dogs not yet assigned families were taunted in their cages by a man holding a cat and a copy of an Evelyn Waugh novel with a picture of an obviously pampered poodle on the cover. The man, with a Kojak-style lolly in his mouth, repeatedly showed the bewildered dogs the cover of the book and teased them over and over again with the phrase "Who loves ya, baby?"

When questioned by staff, he simply said "Dogs have no loved ones", and said he also wished to speak to the manager about the lack of apostrophes after the words "Dogs" and "Cats" in the name of the establishment. He was asked if he was one and the same person as the mysterious Linguistic Avenger who complained about the language used by CNN in calls to the network last week, but he would not confirm this, saying only that he had "every sympathy" with "someone making a stand for plain decency of diction".

Meanwhile, Hugo, Rocky, Jodie and Luca were shaken after the incident, but calm. Ace, however, living up to his reputation as "dodgy" and "a bit of a bruiser", merely snarled and bared his teeth menacingly. "If Ace could talk," said an employee, his conversation would include the likes of "Watch it, mate", "Who you lookin' at, bodger?" and "Did you spill my Winalot, son?"

@Exy - Terms of endearment Nov 9, 2020

Well, they do have "chuchuzinho" in there, which at least is the same language ...

Tibetan, "most honoured poison of my heart" - strange people, the Tibetans.

"This fluent in 3 months team should include the European Portuguese *variant* terms of endearment...

and other Portuguese terms of endearment used in other countries.

PS: I'm sorry. I should be more specific when I wrote that.

I most certainly did not, Tom. As anyone who’s ever had an intact dog will know, the last thing you want is him getting on his bone. It can make your dinner guests most uncomfortable.

I hope Chris's canine porn won't get the topic X-rated. My cat was most displeased with reading this smut and generally finds dogs badly behaved.
