Don't know what that is Jan 17, 2019

Just googled it. Things like that seem a bit like self-flagellation ...or imposing unnecessary restrictions on oneself… not really something that appeals to me.
Just the other day, someone on a Facebook translators' group was asking about which software or apps people used to "manage their workload". As my own approach to this consists of appreciating (i.e. being grateful for) having a workload at all, and getting on with the job ASAP to get it done before the next one comes in, and noth

As my own approach to this consists of appreciating (i.e. being grateful for) having a workload at all, and getting on with the job ASAP to get it done before the next one comes in, and nothing else really, I was surprised to see that many people do go to some lengths to organise the way they work. However, I'm afraid that's not for me, as I'm usually too busy to do anything other than get the actual job done.

Talk about making something simple sound complex Jan 17, 2019

You put a timer. And take breaks. Now there's a whole Pomodoro "system". It basically means taking a coffee break every X minutes. Talk about reinventing the wheel. Someone's making money on a "system" that's just common sense. Sigh.

It wouldn't work for me Jan 17, 2019

Seven years at boarding school doing things by the clock cured me for life.
I loathe interrupting jobs, just when I have got into a flow.

I have an aversion to doing things just because the clock says ping... I do a job, and my need for coffee at intervals ensures that I get breaks.

I do small jobs, so there are often natural breaks. If I do occasionally sit for a couple of hours straight, it doesn't seem to do any harm!

I do small jobs, so there are often natural breaks. If I do occasionally sit for a couple of hours straight, it doesn't seem to do any harm!
I have far fewer headaches than 20 years ago, when I got up at some frightful hour to catch a bus, did my prescribed stint at work with prescribed breaks, massage and even the odd exercise session, then caught a bus home. But my colleagues thought I was a bit of an anarchist.

I'm 20 years older, past pension age and still going strong. Pomodori are something my Italian friends make into salata or cook with, and that is quite different!!

But there, some people like or need regularity, and if it suits them, fine. Just don't press me into it.

Yes, but didn't work for me Jan 17, 2019

It works wonders when I'm reading stuff related to my academic life since I'm not interested in everything I'm reading but for work it's more counter intuitive because you sometimes get in the zone and maybe sometimes you get stuck on a difficult paragraph. After 500 words I take a 10 minute break.
Also for those who haven't heard of it, here's a short video explaining it and I would also suggest using KanbanFlow so that it notifies you on the dot when to stop.

25 minutes of work, 5 minute break and on the 4th pomodoro you take a 20 minute break.

Don't know what that is Jan 17, 2019

and from the descriptions above, it is not for me.

I do work on several projects at a time - sometimes up to 8 or 9 - but I am very organized by nature and it all works out fine. The breaks come in naturally, no need for special electronic help.

Yes Jan 17, 2019

I was a bit skeptical at first, but after a few weeks it worked for me.

You should defintely try it, if you haven't, yet.

Nope Jan 17, 2019

Have just finished a job. Taken a break to open the washing machine and hang everything up.
Had a quick look at today's Poll and now ready to start a new project.

I use it only sometimes Jan 17, 2019

I use it only when I can't get myself to concentrate. But once I enter focus mode, I find that I do not need it again.

I don't know what that is Jan 17, 2019

But from what I've read here, I definitely don't need it. Stress was yesteryear. So were clock-guided breaks.

I don't know what it is Jan 17, 2019

I don't know and I don't want to know.
I have learned a long time ago to ignore this kind of "product" that comes out practically every other day to fool the fools or to assist people who are insecure and lack self-confidence. This is also the largest section of most bookstores (self-help), which is a segment of the market invented by very smart people for a not-so-smart public. I hate this type of offer.
