Yes Feb 8, 2020

I did some active marketing at the very beginning (1985) in Brussels and built a list of the EC (EU now) institutions and agencies I was interested in working with and sent letters by snail mail (no email then) to all of them. My effort was quite successful just because this was a few months before Portugal entered the EC and there weren’t many Portuguese translators established in Brussels. The rest is history…

Yes--as a part of my initial research and planning phase.

It didn't work as I thought, because my then-dreamjob appeared just a step to another dream job, which was another stepping-stone to something even better. However, the good preparation did help me to learn important things and meet useful people.

No; I've never made a list of companies/clients with whom I would like to work.

Tom, I hope you never want to learn Norwegian, Swedish or Danish. Ending such a sentence with a preposition is the only possibility in these languages.

What would be the use of that, anyway? To procrastinate? It's the only one I see.

Other Feb 10, 2020

I checked "Yes" because there was no "Other" option.

I work mostly for international organizations and I know the organizations I would like to work for. On the other hand, fate has also connected me with organizations that were not on my list and they have been some of my best clients.
