Mixteco from Guerrero, Mexico | Jul 23, 2020 |
I am currently learning Mixtec or Mixteco from Guerrero. This is the second indigenous language I am learning. The first one, for which I am fluent now, is Quichua along with its variants from Imbabura, Chimborazo and Cañar. The biggest challenge with Mixteco for me has been getting the various tones rights.
Portuguese and Scottish Gaelic | Jul 23, 2020 |
Ok it's only with Duolingo, but I've wanted to learn Gaelic for years. It annoyed me that, as a Scot, all I could say was good night and thank you. Then I signed up for Portuguese too because every year (except this year, thanks Covid!) I collaborate with an international theatre workshop and we usually have visitors from Brazil who often don't speak English or Italian. Something seems to be working anyway, because I can understand Portuguese speakers on YouTube better now.

No, but I've been thinking about it... | Jul 23, 2020 |
I am not currently learning a new language. But I want to learn 3 Indian languages (Bengali, Marathi and Oriya) and French. The scripts of Bengali and Oriya are very difficult to learn. Marathi is somewhat easy because it shares Devanagari script with Hindi. I already know Hindi. I won't seek a teacher to learn these languages. I will try to learn them on my own.

I'm still working on improving my knowledge of three Native American languages. Not being able to travel to North America this year makes this endeavor a little more difficult.
But I am currently working on a degree in Italian, primarily for the qualification, since I have been working with the language for 11 years anyway, mostly on a full-time basis.

Three languages, yay! | Jul 23, 2020 |
I'm currently learning three languages at the same time: Polish, Greek, and Mandarin. I do so steadily and I hope to speak fluently at least one of them within the next two years.
Hey Christine :) | Jul 23, 2020 |

But they are lovely people, and we enjoy talking to them when we can. Apart from that, it is a real advantage to be able to read the Italian guidebooks and signs, even if we don´t understand them completely. They are usually better than the English versions or other languages we can try. It is also a good way to pick up more Italian. My best wishes to all Italians as their country is recovering from the pandemic, perhaps we can visit again next year. Meanwhile my husband and I have a very good Italian teacher here in Denmark and a small class of fellow students, so we plan to start lessons again in the autumn.

I've been learning Italian on my own for years. I keep dropping it and picking it up again! I need people to talk to... And I'm thinking about the next language already... Swedish maybe?

Several years now, though I have not been as dedicated as I should be lately. Then again, with a newborn, it can be somewhat difficult to focus on one's die der and das. Still, I always try to fit in a lesson or two, I absolutely love the language. Maybe when I get more free time I can try to get a college course going.
