I think it was a practising architect who drew up plans for our extension with a partition wall halfway across a window...
I can just about stomach a one-man architectural practice, but I’m still struggling with the idea of a translation practice. Especially as even the lowliest brick outhouse designer creates something tangible and potentially life-changing, whereas all we do is repaint things a different colour.
So what do you design, Tom?

Not domestic. Big stuff. With big teams of engineers etc. In various languages.

The yellow bit on the roof suggests a McDonald's sign, only with two Ms. Maybe they specialise in Double Macs? Rather sternly Stalinist, though. Could it be the Pyongyang McDonald's?
Only kidding. Which airport is that? Looks like it has a monorail shuttle, too.

It isn't an airport. It's something else. Here's another pic of that project

plus the control centre, which is full of people operating the system remotely, administrative offices, etc. The thing you thought was a McD sign is the roof over the outside terrace of the workers' canteen. So you were warm.
Looks good to me!
I knew it wasn't the Pyongyang McD from the start. I don't think they have a McD there yet, although Mr Young 'Un apparently wanted it. Just for himself, likely as not.

I love the way you’ve combined the neo-gothic with the rococo to create that quasi-brutalist twist.
You just need to watch out for Benny Hill switching the computer tapes I guess.
Why on earth you would want to give that up to fart around with idiot translation agencies I really don’t know...

What you don't know is the elbowing, the low blows, the stress, the long, slow process (it takes years) of acquring a project, designing it, and getting it built.....it's much easier to sit at home and work online.

Is "acqure" an architectural term? Or is this one of those low blows you mentioned?

Don’t low blows belong in the current poll thread?

What is a "cruel sometimes"? I didn't know Mervyn had one. Can I have one?

What are its? Give me an it.
Returning to the fascinating topic of "what percentage of your life have you been professionally practiSing translation?" I would say 72.23% (variable).

That means you must have done a lot of architecture in the remaining percentage. I'm impressed, and I can see how stressful that must have been in a relatively short space of time. Was it all in Italy, and was it similar transport-related stuff, or other projects?
