Source text - English Kidney disease (also called nephropathy) is when the kidneys are damaged and cannot filter the blood as well as they should. Many people show no symptoms in the early stages of kidney disease, resulting in delayed diagnosis and treatment. People with diabetes have higher levels of sugar in the blood and this affects kidney function. This is why kidney disease is more common in people with diabetes than in those without diabetes.
