I have a Bachelor of Arts in Anthropology and Japanese Studies from Binghamton University. I studied Japanese formally for three years and spent one semester abroad at Kansai Gaidai University, where I did a homestay program. My final year of coursework I undertook a translation project of the light novel 'Welcome to the NHK', where I translated the prologue and first two chapters. I have spent three years on the JET program in Echizen City, Fukui, where I maintained an office in city hall's board of education department and visited 16 elementary schools to teach English and American culture. I prepared lesson plans, PowerPoint presentations, and ESL classroom materials such as picture cards and story books in English and Japanese. Additionally, I was asked to translate and proofread translated documents of various subject matter at city hall. I was appointed by the Fukui Prefectural Board of Education as a volunteer 'block leader' for two years, where I provided translation and interpretation services for other foreign English teachers. I performed a translation for signs in Nishiyama Park in Sabae, Fukui. |
