Source text - English If you did not install Pegasus Mail’s special support for the Novell NetWare Local Area Network system and chose not to have the installer preconfigure a user mailbox for you (see above), then the first time you run WinPMail it will ask you to choose from three different operating modes – single-user, multi-user and network. The choice you should make depends on how you intend to use the program:
• If there will only ever be one Pegasus Mail user on your machine and if you only have one mail account, you should select single-user mode. While this is the simplest operating mode, we no longer recommend that people use it as a general rule, because it makes
it considerably harder to convert to a multi-user setup at a later stage. Generally, even if you are only a single user, you are better-advised to select one of the Multi-user modes shown below.
• If you want to have more than one person using Pegasus Mail on your machine and for each person to have their own separate mail folders and address books, choose multiuser mode. There is a basic assumption in this operating mode that all the users will run
Pegasus Mail on the same computer. This is the operating mode that the Pegasus Mail installer chooses automatically when you tell it to preconfigure a user mailbox for you.
• If you have a local-area network other than Novell NetWare, you should click on Network mode. In network mode, Pegasus Mail assumes that each mail user will be running Pegasus Mail on a different machine but that all users will have access to a common
shared volume on your network.
If you select either multi-user or network modes, Pegasus Mail will ask you to supply a mailbox location: you should enter a directory in which Pegasus Mail can find or create a subdirectory for each mail user. In network mode, you must specify a path to a directory on the
shared volume, and all users must be able to access that path from their machines. Once you have entered the path (which need not exist – Pegasus Mail will create it as required), Pegasus Mail will permit you to create mail users on the system. There are two types of user – normal users and administrative users. Administrative users may create, remove and rename other users via the Manage users... option on the Addresses menu. You must always specify at least one administrative user.
If you select single-user mode, Pegasus Mail will simply ask you for a directory where your mail files should be created: enter any valid directory name on your system – Pegasus Mail will create it if necessary.
If you intend to use Pegasus Mail’s built-in Internet mail capabilities and have properly-installed the Windows TCP/IP networking protocol on your system, the first time you run Pegasus Mail it will ask you if you wish to configure it to handle your Internet mail. If you
answer yes, the Internet Setup Wizard process will run: this is a series of simple dialogs in which you type basic information such as your address and the host where Pegasus Mail should find your mail – your service provider or Network Manager will be able to provide
you with this information if you do not know it. You can review this information at any time by choosing the Internet Options option from the Tools menu.(see the section at the end of this manual for more detailed information on setting up WinPMail’s built-in Internet mail services).

La scelta dipende da come si intende usare il programma:
• Se sul proprio computer ci sarà sempre soltanto un utente Pegasus Mail e se di dispone di un solo account di posta, si deve selezionare la modalità utente singolo. Sebbene questa sia la modalità operativa più semplice, non consigliamo di utilizzarla come regola generale, perché è notevolmente più difficile da convertire in configurazione multiutente in una fase successiva. In genere, anche se si è utente singolo, si consiglia di selezionare una delle modalità multiutente mostrate di seguito.
• Se c'è più di una persona che utilizza Pegasus Mail sul proprio computer, e si desidera che ciascuna persona disponga di proprie cartelle di posta e rubriche separate, selezionare la modalità multiutente. In questa modalità operativa l'assunto è che tutti gli utenti eseguiranno Pegasus Mail sullo stesso computer. Questa è la modalità operativa che il programma di installazione di Pegasus Mail sceglie automaticamente quando gli si dice di preconfigurare una casella di posta utente.
• Se si dispone di una rete locale diversa da Novell NetWare, è necessario fare clic su Modalità di rete. In modalità di rete, Pegasus Mail presuppone che ogni utente di posta esegua Pegasus Mail su un differente computer, ma che tutti gli utenti abbiano accesso a un comune volume condiviso sulla rete.
Se si seleziona le modalità multiutente o di rete, Pegasus Mail chiederà di fornire la posizione della casella di posta: si deve inserire una directory in cui Pegasus Mail possa trovare o creare una sottodirectory per ogni utente di posta. In modalità di rete, è necessario specificare un percorso di directory sul
volume condiviso, e tutti gli utenti devono poter accedere a quel percorso dalle loro macchine. Una volta inserito il percorso (che non deve necessariamente esistere - nel caso Pegasus Mail lo creerà come richiesto), Pegasus Mail consentirà di creare utenti di posta sul sistema.
Esistono due tipi di utenti: utenti normali e utenti amministratori. Gli utenti amministratori possono creare, rimuovere e rinominare altri utenti tramite l'opzione Gestisci utenti... nel menu Indirizzi. Si deve sempre specificare almeno un utente amministratore.
Se si seleziona la modalità utente singolo, Pegasus Mail chiederà semplicemente una directory in cui creare i file di posta: inserire qualsiasi nome di directory valido sul proprio sistema - Pegasus Mail lo creerà se necessario.
Se si intende utilizzare la funzionalità di posta Internet integrata di Pegasus Mail ed è stato correttamente installato il protocollo di rete TCP / IP Windows sul proprio sistema, la prima volta che si esegue Pegasus Mail verrà chiesto se si desidera configurarlo per gestire la posta Internet. Se si risponde di sì, verrà eseguito il processo di installazione guidata Internet: si tratta di una serie di semplici finestre di dialogo in cui si digitano le informazioni di base, come ad esempio il proprio indirizzo e l'host su cui Pegasus Mail dovrebbe trovare la posta - il fornitore di servizi o il gestore della rete sarà in grado di fornire
tali informazioni se non se ne è a conoscenza.
