How easy is it to learn?

Huge time saver
Review by
Ruth Simpson . Wordfast Pro 5 is a standalone CAT tool that is compatible in my experience with Word, Powerpoint, InDesign and most other office software programs.
I work on a mac system and it is perfectly compatible.
I also need to use Trados for one client, but consistently use Wordfast Pro 5 for all others because of how easy and practical it is.
Highly recommended! And a training session to get you started is also highly recommended, to get the most out of it.

How easy is it to learn?

Still horrible
Review by
Achalemoipas . Still extremely buggy. I have to close it and reopen it at least five times a day because things just stop working for no reason (can't commit using shortcut keys after transcheck, for example). The layout is horrendous, many important functions still are only decorations after all these years.

At every single segment, I have to wait two seconds otherwise what I write in those two seconds is "cancelled" and I start back at the beginning of the segment. You can't just click on text if it's not in the segment you're working on, you can select it and it does nothing.

Even basic, dumb things like word search: finds the word, displays the wrong segment.

It's an extremely annoying software that I would gladly replace if my main client didn't force me to use it. It's so incredibly bad and frustrating that you can't help to think it's some practical joke.

I am actively seeking new clients just to not have to use Wordfast.

Every single update makes it worse. Translating directly in Word is actually faster. I work faster without it, but I'm forced to use it.

Dear Achalemoipas, sorry to hear you had a bad user experience with Wordfast. The lag you experienced could be caused by a slow internet connection if you are connecting to a remote TM or saving local assets to cloud sync drives like Google Drive, iCloud or OneDrive. For other issues, we encourage users to send a feedback report so developers can investigate, fix bugs, add new features, or improve the software. Since your report in July of 2018, we have released 12 new versions. Upgrades to new versions are free and included for the validity of your license. How easy is it to learn?

Excellent tool with new features and optimisations continuously added
Review by
Stefan Stefanov . Wordfast Pro 5 has seen huge improvement over the past year (2018) and now runs smoothly and fast and has become my favourite tool (used to be Wordfast Pro 3).
Project management (creation and modification) is as easy as it can be, in a single window, unlike in the competition. Switching between working modes is very intuitive. Translating in it is a straightforward process where you focus on what matters.
You buy a licence for a period of time (and theirs is the cheapest, with renewal at half-price), not for a version, which is great, because you receive all the latest improvements when they become available and you do not have to think about upgrading. If project/TM upgrades are required between versions, this is performed automatically, unlike in some other tools.
Wordfast Pro 5 is a highly recommended professional translation tool!

How easy is it to learn?

So so bad
Review by
John Gray . I have used other translation software before (deja vu, memsource) and the difference is astounding, comparable on a level of handcar to Ferrari. There are so many bugs and as the years go by and new versions are released it hasn't improved one bit. Whoever the members of the team are - I salute you on your capacity to not resolve problems in your software. Unfortunately I am obliged to use WF5 and suffer daily as it crashes and refuses to accept my confirmed segments. In all fairness, it could potentially be an effective translation tool, but as it stands I would keep well away. I can only hope that one day the team will figure out what they're doing wrong but I sincerely doubt this !

How easy is it to learn?

Worst translation tool ever
Review by
Dominique Cavallo . I just can't believe they actually ask money for such a buggy software.

- Things stop working for no reason at all (including the research function)
- The spellcheck is a very stressfull moment as you never know if the software is going to crash
- The software crashed easily in 50% of the times when you launch it

It's time they wake up and do something about this.

Dear Dominique, thank you for your feedback and sorry to hear about the issues you faced. We are currently beta testing a fix to a Mac crashing issue when the software is launched or closed on certain machines. It will be released to the public in the coming weeks. As for other issues you may have encountered, we strongly encourage our users to submit a feedback report via the WF icon so our development team can investigate.
