I haven’t had any technical issues for a while (knock on wood!) and if I ever had one while working it should have been long ago because I can’t remember it. My mouse has been erratic for a while, I haven’t replaced it yet but I have a new one on standby just in case. Anyway, I have an annual maintenance contract and any issues are dealt with quickly and easily online.

New computer! Dec 4, 2018

I voted that the last issue was fixed by a technician - I had to install the new Trados Studio, and for the first time in years, I had to get support in to fix a bug. Quick, courteous and efficient - so it has been trouble free since, let's hope it stays that way!

Before that, my computer had trouble with a Windows 10 update, and I had to keep restarting it. So I ended up buying a new computer, although the other was only four years old. Instead of un-installing and transferring Tra

Before that, my computer had trouble with a Windows 10 update, and I had to keep restarting it. So I ended up buying a new computer, although the other was only four years old. Instead of un-installing and transferring Trados, I just began using the new version on the new computer.
My husband is the computer man in the house, and we worked through to a fairly satisfactory setup, with only a few minor problems.

the last big problem that I remember at any rate Dec 4, 2018

My kitten sat on my laptop. Two minutes later I came to start working, but the laptop appeared to be dead. It was actually in a coma and was revived by a very dear friend. He said he couldn't save my files, and so there were a couple that I lost. Once I'd managed to recreate the most important ones, he promptly found everything that was missing.

(The kitten wasn't actually at fault)

IT support, not resolved yet Dec 4, 2018

Emails from one particular client fail to reach me. They are not in the spam or junk folders, they just disappear into cyberspace. It only happens with emails from one individual at this client, and only on emails he sends to me. Support staff at my host (SiteGround) are looking into it but have not resolved it yet. In the meanwhile I have given this particular client an alternate address.

Translation helps you become your own technician Dec 4, 2018

Learning by doing in the technical sphere is one of the greatest benefits of being a freelance translator. I can't believe what I can do on a computer in the meantime - and it is only because I have been forced to resolve numerous problems over the years.

If there had been anyone else or some tech support, I would have been very happy many a time, but would know a lot less today.

... issueS are not yet resolved. Dec 5, 2018

In September I bought a new all-in-one desktop computer with a 27" monitor. I have a list 8 pages long, single space, with problems that need to be resolved. I've been figuring out some of them myself as I go along, but many others have me stumped. They are deal-breakers, so I continue to use my old computer for my translation work. I send myself a lot of emails back and forth (because One Drive isn't working on the new computer).

The list is so long that I'm overwhelmed. I need to prioritize what's most needed and give my tech a call.

MemoQ Issue (forever) Dec 5, 2018

The worst technical issue I'm having lately has been going on for almost a year now. MemoQ, all of a sudden, uses about 6 GBytes of my memory, out of the blue, and the only solution is to shut it down using Task Manager and reopening it.
I've checked forums and realized several people are facing this problem too. Killgray simply wasn't able to fix it yet, and when you ask for help, they don't know what to do.

I paid for MemoQ for three years in a row, to make sure I had the latest versions and online assistance. This year, for the first time, I'm not paying for it. I won't pay for it until I'm sure this issue has been resolved. And if this doesn't happen until the end of next year, I'm gladly moving on to Trados.
