I usually don't eat at my desk (I hate mess), but I do drink one or two espresso coffees and I always have a bottle of water nearby in a special place on a bookshelf away from my keyboard to avoid disasters. I tend to eat less when I’m busy with work and when I’m really overloaded I might even forget to eat or drink. When this happens I’ll have a few dried apricots or one or two squares of dark chocolate just to quiet down my rumbling tummy.

I eat a piece of cake or bread and eat cookies far away from my keyboard ( I hate mess and I'm a disaster with a coffee's bottle surf near me). I prefer to eat at the kitchen.

Unhealthy Oct 26, 2020

As someone who's almost never able to control my cravings, it would be quite unhealthy for me to have snacks near my working space. I would definitely overeat! I prefer to have tea or water near.

I eat or drink something....but away from the computer. I continue working through my cell phone, looking up words and so on.

I don't eat while working. There's the time to eat, and there's the time to work.

I hate typing with sticky fingers, and I hate eating without washing my hands... That goes back to my childhood, but it is a good habit in these corona times!

I take proper breaks to eat, even if they are only a few minutes, but they are really worth it. Very often, disconnecting from work and coming back allows a new idea to come to the surface and solve a problem. Never sit staring at the problem for too long...

I often have a cup of coffee or tea on a separate table, but I usually drink it before it gets cold.

I do have something TO DRINK if I happen to be working at Starbucks (coffee or Italian carbonated water), McDonald's (root beer or orange soda), or Arby's (root beer, orange soda, or a jamocha milk shake). But I never have anything to eat while I'm working, because I want to direct my full attention to my work. When you eat, a lot of your blood goes down to your belly to aid digestion, and away from your brain, which means the latter functions less efficiently.

False, I can't be bothered and it distracts too. I might move away from my work station to eat and at the same time, have a break, but never where I am also working on some translation.

Only when I’m bored Oct 26, 2020

I’ll quite happily consume a whole packet of biscuits in one go if I’m bored. Luckily that’s not often, or my figure would be less beautifully beach-ready.

I would’ve thought all the noise would have much the same effect on your ability to concentrate. Not to mention the blood sugar spikes.

Wouldn’t plain water in a quiet room be the best recipe for peak performance?

Absolutely not. I don't snack between meals. I'm watching my weight and looking after my health. I MIGHT take a break mid-afternoon and eat a banana or an orange, but that's it.

In addition to the points given above with which I largely agree, if I were to eat at the computer desk, I would always be at the desk. And Oct 26, 2020

And I want to enjoy what I eat or snack on, which I won't enjoy if my mind - and attention - are on my work.

Hi Chris S Oct 26, 2020

I concentrate so intently on my work that I am able to block out any extraneous noise, unless a stove back in the fast food kitchen were to blow up!

I find that the sugar and caffeine in coffee and soft drinks and milk shakes makes my mind function a whole lot more efficiently. They also, overall, make me feel a lot better. The trick is to not OD on any of it.
