This forum topic is for the discussion of the poll question "Have you had any business trips as part of your translation work (on-site, client meetings, etc)".
Most trips are professional development related, so I'm not sure if that counts. It counts for me as I believe that you can't perform properly without ongoing training, therefore it is very important to travel to the country of your target/source language.

The only time it happened to me, it did me no good at all. It must have been about 30 years ago. For several months I had been getting small but regular jobs, two or three a week, from a certain agency. Then I attended a meeting organized by the Translators' Guild (forerunner of the ITI) in London, where one of the speakers was the head of this agency.
