In all my accounts Feb 5, 2006

But the average is pretty staggered.
My "public" account is the one I use when I must provide an e-mail address to register, log in or otherwise provide a valid mail address. This one gets about 500 spam e-mails a month.

My "private" address, the one I use for business and family only gets 1 or 2 spam e-mails once every few days.

Depends on how many e-mails you have Feb 5, 2006

The more e-mails you have, the more Spam. I agree that it's a boring poll.

I have two email addresses, I don't get any spam emails at all, on either of them. But then, I'm really careful with my surfing and the kind of information I give out.

No offence taken, Giovanni! Everybody has a right to an opinion. For me, the results of this poll are quite interesting. Thanks everybody for voting!

The idea of this poll came to me a few days ago, after noticing that I had started to receive what I was considering to be a high number of spam messages (4-5 per day). I can see now that I should be happy with only 4-5 per day because it can be much worse. 100+ per day?! That must be a nightmare!.

I was pretty careful with my e-mails, but I suspect they were crawled from my profile page. I put my e-mails on the profile page to make it easier for the outsourcers to contact me, but now I’m not sure it was a good idea.

I took a look at Sandra’s and Lily’s profile pages and they don’t have their e-mails displayed. Therefore, that could be one of the main reasons for not receiving spam messages.

What I’d like to hear is if there are people who have their e-mails displayed on their profile pages/web sites and, despite that, receive no spam. That would be really great. I think they must apply some strategies and, if such people do exist, I’d be grateful if they told us how they manage to do that.

It wasn't. Spammers scan the web for e-mail addresses.

There was a forum thread about putting an e-mail address on webpage: http://www.proz.com/topic/38073

Thanks, Hynek! I have already removed the e-mails from my profile page. Thanks for the useful link, too.

Could someone inform me what is the.... Feb 6, 2006

.....purpose of spammers? Why they indulge in such type of activity. Whether they want that the computers should be infected with virus? Do they do it just for their "fun" or are their any commercial purpose behind?

How they do operate? Whether they use machines to do it? Have they got so much spare time to send spams to people to tease them?

I also receive a lot of spam messages. The problem is if I block the one spammer, I receive spams from other sources.

I am convinced with the idea that we should have separate IDs for business and public dealings.

Is there any effective way out of this nuisance?

Lucky you! I get about 100 a day and I am sick of it! Nearly all are sent to the email address published on my website...

It's annoying, but I guess it's a part of life - or at least, it's a part of life with an email address. I wish that were not the case, but I guess it's best not to stress about it.

However, that being said, I do not at all disagree with the post "what is the purpose.." since I think we all feel the same way, we wish they'd leave us well enough along, you know?:)
