I think Trados is a really challenging tool, which makes our work more interesting. At least this is what I feel after having used it for almost 2 years. Since I use it I feel I am doing more than translating. I find it of great use for large projects with repetitions especially for technical texts where consistency of terminology is very important. The problem (or maybe not actually a problem, except the fact that every new version means a new expense) is that they are developping it at such a fast rate, that no sooner do you get used to a version that they are releasing a new one, which is also a good thing as every new version is improved compared to the previous. I have not long ago bought version 7.1 plus MultiTerm 7.1, which I find great as it allows you to use more than one termbase at a time, which is really useful. The plug-ins added to the TagEditor are also useful, although they need improvement as for the moment, besides the true errors signalled, they also give false errors, some of them ridiculous. However, they are a good start as they really help you find for instance the missing tags, or the misplaced tags, or the same sentence translated in a different way (sometimes it is necessary to be so, but it is seldom the case with very technical texts). I hope some of you will speak about SDL Trados 2006. I am very curious if it is quite different from Trados 7.1. I would like to hear some opinions.

I can do what I need to do... Mar 17, 2006

...but I need to improve my skills. I'm certain that I'm not using the software to its full potential at the moment. I can get around Trados OK at a basic level but I really need to sit down for a weekend and get to know it much better. I haven't had a weekend to spare in a long while and much prefer to spend it away from the office. So - 2 answers.

(Off topic: it would be nice to have a "delete post" facility in the forums. Usually a kind moderator deletes my postings but it would

Other: I just got it Mar 17, 2006

So I have no idea yet how capable I will be, though I believe that I will be skilled once I have used it a number of times.

I do not know everything about it.... Mar 18, 2006

...but I can very quickly cope with every problem I encounter. And I have frequently helped other people even with problems I did not know - I solved them quite quickly. So I answered I am an expert.

I do not know everything, but I know much, and I can do things I've learnt at university but that I've never used at my current job, so I know more than "what I need to do".
But I'd also like to improve my skills, so it's just a point of view, indeed...
