"How many POW-WOWS have you attended?".
Uff.... and I am not considering other meetings I regularly have with my (many!) proZians friends... movies, concerts, seminars, birthday parties, asados... OK, all my Skype contacts are proZians also, what else can I add?

I have attended none. Well, I have just moved from country and so far there hasn't been any Pow-wow here. I've also recently become a Platinum Member, so just now I will have the opportunity to organize one. In the other country were I was before (Netherlands) I was too busy to attend and had to travel by train to the meetings because they were never held in my city.

Well, apologies if it's been debated before, I only suggested the poll 2 days ago so my fault
For those of you near London there are 3 or 4 Pow-wows coming up over the next few weeks (I'm organising one on June 11th and there are 2 more in London, one in Bath, one in Reading etc)!
I've only been to one Pow-Wow so far (in York last August) but it was really good to meet up with people and chat.

I think Powwows can be very useful for someone starting as a freelance translator, at least they have been to me. I learned about billing, payment methods and how to make the most of my proz membership. And of course, there's the chance to know nice people with common problems.

Unfortunately, I live too far away from any urban center to be able to attend... Canada is just too big a country!
I would love to go to a Powwow but I'll never give up my life in the country to go back to the city: been there, done that - no, thank ya!! So, I might never enjoy the fun experience of meeting fellow translators. I do meet some of them online, though, so things aren't so bad!

I've attended many pow-wows, and held two in my neck of the woods. In fact the first pow-wow I attended was one I organised, held at a restaurant in Cornwall, Ontario. We were a group of 6, I believe, and everybody was from Montreal except me!
I've attended pow-wows in Montreal, too many to count, and one in Toronto, at the ATA seminar, as well as in Spain and a mini pow-wow, held ad hoc, in Chicago at another ATA seminar.
But I held one here at my place under the big m... See more I've attended many pow-wows, and held two in my neck of the woods. But I held one here at my place under the big maple tree (where we stood to get shelter from the rain) and I had visitors from all over the area: Ottawa and Montreal, both an hour away, and one family group who shall remain nameless came up from Syracuse, NY - what is that, three-four hours away? We had a potluck dinner on my husband's hand-made "picnic" table before the rain came, and spent the hours of darkness in my 1871 country home, where my guests admired all the renovations in progress I got the bathroom folks, but we're still waiting on the office...
I looooove pow-wows and likely will attend another one this summer in Montreal with my newborn.
Let me add that yes, Canada is a big country, and for example the pow-wow I just mentioned is, for me, on the other side of Montreal - quite a haul. But everytime I do the drive, I'm telling myself on the way home that it was worth it! Pow-wows helped me early on and now I'm in a position to help others, and that's a great community-builder.

I've been to only one (hey, Puerto Rico, we need to organize another one soon). My husband (not a translator) and I had a great time. It's so good to get together with others who have the same interests! I suggest you take along all your "little" questions, about billing or computing or CAT tools or whatever. When you bring one of them up, you'll probably find that others have the same question, and that somebody there has an answer.
