Depends on where and how you define it May 22, 2006

It's like one great big small town in some ways, but:

El Paso County, Texas, USA (mostly the city) has a population of 700,000 plus more in surrounding areas of New Mexico.

Cd. Juárez, Chihuahua, Mexico must have at least 1.5 millon people (we don't know exactly).

That adds up to 2.2 million plus.

I've also been spending some time in Carmel, California, population a little over 4,000, definitely a small town.

Greenville County is the most populous in the state at 379,616, but, because its city limits enclose less than 30 square miles, the population of the city proper is 56,002 (2000 U.S. Census). The city of Greenville is one of the most densely populated municipalities in the state, while Greenville County has the highest population density of any county in South Carolina. Greenville is the primary city of "The Upstate" of South Carolina, an area that includes the six counties of northwestern South Carolina along the borders of North Carolina and Georgia.
Greenville is on Interstate Highway I-85 between Atlanta and Charlotte, with I-385 and I-185 servicing other areas of the metro. I-26 is about 30 miles to the northeast in Spartanburg.

The area consist of several states, DC, MD & VA
The area where I live still has a "small townish" feel, with the traffic of I-95 to go with it!!

But ,I grew up on an island in the very north of Norway, population 70!!

Calamandrana, province of Asti, Piedmont, Italy May 22, 2006

I was born and still live in Calamandrana, a small town with 1,742 inhabitants, where everybody knows everybody.

Countryside, no traffic, also no broadband, but fresh and clean air 365 days a year, good wine, slow pace.

I've been in many places in Europe (Germany, France, Poland, Russia, Austria), but I still enjoy living in this out-of-time village.
