It's amazing how there are so many aweful translations out there (anyone who's ever watched a subtitled movie or posted Kudoz will probably agree with me on this), yet "linguistic skills" is almost at the bottome of what we feel we need to improve!

Isn't it (or shouldn't it be) a normal part of the profession? Best, Andres

Best, Andres You both made really good points and I agree with Andres 100%, linguistic skills should be improved continuously and they are a normal part of our profession, I mean we are by definition linguists, but my question is: do we really? Sometimes when I do editing work, go to the movies, or even read through random stuff, I wonder if we all keep working at it as hard as we should. That's all. On a lighter note, hi Aurora! I'm looking forward to seeing you and JL at the conference.

I strive to improve every aspect of my work. However, if I had to choose an area that requires more attention and improvement, I would definitely choose marketing. I find it of utmost importance to get three types of business: more business, repeat business and better business. Reed

I believe that this is the most critical, for improving other skills. Time management here is not to be limited to the daily timetable, it might involve when would you do that? (when to market yourself, how much time would be devoted to improving your skills, etc.). Believe me it is all about Time Management. Sam
