What would be the point of allowing images as well... and problems with translation text from an image can quite simply be typed to get a response... its doubtful that the image could contribute much important context to help with translation.
The site is already slow enough...NO IMAGES!

It could be terrible if we start answering images with more images. This would de-naturalize the essence of this workplace, and the essence of translation itself.

But on the other hand, sometimes we have a digital picture of the "thing" we are trying to explain. For instance: in architecture it would be very difficult to describe in detail a museum by Frank Gehry - you necessarily need the image to get the feeling. Well, Frank Gehry is very famous, so "his" images are available online and all you need is to write the adequate website address.
Not so easy with "the picture from my grandma's house on the far-away countryside"... that's what pictures are for after all! ▲ Collapse

We could always link to a good picture of the thing we mean. There are pictures of everything and anything in Internet. As for "the picture from my grandma's house on the far-away countryside", we could link to it in our yahoo photos or some other of the many sites that let us upload images. No need to overload proz.com more than it already is.

I don't particularly care either way, but I could see it might be useful in translating patents, for example, where there are no images on the internet because you're describing a new product. (Of course, most of the time they don't actually give you the figures anyway - that would be too easy, wouldn't it!)
It would also be very useful if you're trying to decipher someone's handwriting and you could just put the appropriate bit in your Kudoz question. That would be the main applica... I don't really mind as I have a fast connection, but the site is already slow enough and for people living in areas not serviced by broadband or satellite - and who are therefore connecting to the Internet using dial-up - I think the Proz.com site could become excessively slow. Maybe find a way of speeding up the site a bit first before allowing images ......

Yes, it would definitely be useful. But the bandwidth is an important point, so we must consider certain requirement in order not to saturate the site with images

I've been translating archaeology texts discussing the details of the buildings and pottery characteristics.
At times, the authors were not clear (the problems ranged from using non-existent words through misspellings to arcane language). At other times, I just couldn't "see clearly" what was being discussed (I'm not very visually oriented).

An image could explain better than thousand words. Sometimes one can have a scheme, knows what are those things on the scheme, and what they do, but doesn't know / can't recall a name of one of them. Pointing right thing on a image would be much better, than describing it.

I have posted a question a long time ago that nobody understood because I couldn't upload an image - which I did have. In that particular case, I would have loved to have the ability to upload an image. If it can be done in other areas of the site, why not in KudoZ? Of course, we would have to avoid abuse, so I would limit this to certain types of questions. For example, non-pro questions wouldn't be allowed to post images.
I would welcome this possibility, particularly for engineering questions. ▲ Collapse

Though I think that sometimes words escape us or, like Patricia said, that some of us are not visual people (I have a very hard time picturing things), I'm with Thomas on this one.
We can use plenty of other free sites that allow us to upload pictures/files and link, so that Proz.com members and/or users don't suffer because of slow connections, like Yaotl, Viktoria, et al pointed out..
