Sunday Mornin' Comin' Down Well, I woke up Sunday morning With no way to hold my head that didn't hurt. And the beer I had for breakfast wasn't bad, So I had one more for dessert. Then I fumbled in my closet through my clothes And found my cleanest dirty shirt. Then I washed my face and combed my hair And stumbled down the stairs to meet the day. I'd smoked my mind the night before With cigarettes and songs I'd been picking. But I lit my first and watched a small kid Playing with a can that he was kicking. Then I walked across the street And caught the Sunday smell of someone's frying chicken. And Lord, it took me back to something that I'd lost Somewhere, somehow along the way. On a Sunday morning sidewalk, I'm wishing, Lord, that I was stoned. 'Cause there's something in a Sunday That makes a body feel alone. Y como la cerveza que he desayunado no me ha ido mal, me voy a tomar otra de postre. Después rebusqué entre mi ropa del armario Y encontré la más limpia de mis camisas sucias. Me devuelve algo que creía perdido en alguna parte, en algún sitio…A lo largo del camino. En una acera de mañana de domingo, solo le pido a Dios colocarme. Porque las mañanas de domingo caen a plomo y hacen que los cuerpos se sientan solos. Y no hay nada tan parecido a la muerte, ni la mitad de solitario, que el sonido de una descarnada acera urbana durmiente, y el de una mañana de domingo cayendo a plomo. En el parque he visto a un “papi” Con una niñita que mecía en el aire. Y me he parado junto a una escuela dominical, y he escuchado las canciones que cantaban. Después he seguido calle abajo, Y en algún lugar, muy lejos, tañía una solitaria campana, y su eco se perdía en el cañón, como los sueños que desaparecieron de antaño. |
