Source text - English Terni, capoluogo di provincia, è la patria di San Valentino patrono degli Innamorati le cui reliquie si trovano nella basilica omonima. Adagiata in una ridente pianura cantata dai viaggiatori del Grand Tour come la valle di Tempe, presenta notevoli testimonianze artistiche nelle sue chiese e nei suoi palazzi. L’arte moderna trova il suo apice nello splendido obelisco di Pomodoro conosciuto come Lancia di Luce.
Capolavori della pittura si ammirano nella Pinacoteca Comunale ove emerge la Pala dei Francescani di Piermatteo d’Amelia.
La storia antica della città trova la sua documentazione nella raccolta di reperti archeologici relativi al territorio esposti nel Museo Archeologico, mentre emblema della rivoluzione industriale dell’800 sono la Grande Pressa delle Acciaierie ternane che campeggia davanti alla Stazione e l’interessante Museo delle Armi.
Terni è circondata da monti su cui si affacciano suggestivi paesini medievali come il comune di Stroncone o le frazioni/delegazioni di Cesi, Miranda, Collescipoli nella cui chiesa di Santa Maria si trova il prezioso organo Hermans.
Sito archeologico di grande rilevanza è Carsulae, antica città romana ricca di monumenti, fanno parte del comune di Terni ma geograficamente compresi nella Valnerina, sono i grandi spettacoli della natura della Cascata delle Marmore, il Parco Fluviale del Nera e il lago di Piediluco.
Oltre il crinale dei rilievi si incontrano il suggestivo centro medievale di San Gemini e poi Acquasparta con l’elegante Palazzo Cesi: ambedue le cittadine sono rinomate per le loro acque minerali.
Translation - Italian Terni, the second county seat of Umbria, is the native town of Saint Valentine the protector of lovers, whose relics lie in the "Basilica", the cathedral, that takes his name. Placed in a beautiful plain, sung by the Grand Tour travellers as Tempe valley, this town has many remarkable works of art in its churches and palaces. Modern art finds its culmination in the beautiful Pomodoro's obelisk known as "Lancia di Luce" which has the meaning of "lance of light".
Masterpieces of the paintings are displayed in the "Pinacoteca Comunale", the Municipal Art Gallery, where stands out the "Pala dei Francescani", by Piermatteo d'Amelia.
The ancient history of the city finds its documentation in the collection of archaeological finds of this territory, displayed in the "Museo Archeologico", the Archaeological Museum. Also, evidence of the history of this town is the "Grande Pressa" the emblem of the Industrial Revolution of the 1800s of the Steel Mill of Terni that stands in front of the Train Station of the city and the "Museo Delle Armi", the Museum of Weapons.
Terni is surrounded by mountains where impressive medieval villages overlook, such as Stroncone or the hamlets/districts of Cesi, Miranda, Collescipoli where in Santa Maria church it's stored the precious Hermans Organ.
An important archaeological site is Carsulae, an ancient Roman city rich in monuments. Part of the municipality of Terni, but geographically included in the Valnerina, are the great sight of nature "Cascata Delle Marmore", a suggestive waterfall. Also the "Parco Fluviale del Nera", the Nera River Park and the lake called "Lago di Piediluco" that takes its name from its location.
Beyond the ridge of the mountains rise the evocative medieval village of San Gemini and Acquasparta where is the elegant Palace of "Palazzo Cesi": both villages are well-known for their mineral water.

Welcome to my profile! my name is Claudia Nicolai and I am a part-time translator ENG>IT, FR>IT. I was born in Italy, in the lovely town of Terni. The love for foreign languages was strong since my childhood and finally started to take shape when I started my University course.
