In English, these documents are normally written in a form of instructions (imperative), not passive voice, as you would normally translate this type of construction. Are there any instances where this would be translated using imperative? Many thanks.

Do you translate these phrases as:
"(Gels) are soaked/allowed to stand/held for 8 hours..." or
"Soak/allow to stand/hold (the gel) for 8 hours...".
It seems to me you all think the latter is the case. Can you please give me some examples - bilingual documents where Russian impersonal constructions are translated as instructions? (like the second example).
