French term

anapathomopathologie

French to English Medical Medical (general) report of puncture guided by CT scan
Hi,
Can anyone tell me what this specialty is and how to translate it for UK market?
I've come across "anatomo-pathologie" (anatomical pathology) but not this version.
The sentence is the following:
"anapathomopathologie: adénocarcinome ALK negatif"
Thanks

Anne Schulz Feb 26, 2016:
IMHO, In order to make sense at all (rather than being just garbled syllables), "anapatomopathologie" should be a combination of anatomy, pathomorphology, and pathology.
mchd Feb 25, 2016:
Dans le jargon médical, il est souvent utilisé "anapat", d'où l'utilisation fréquente d'anatomopathologie à la place d'anapatomopathologie
joanna menda (asker) Feb 25, 2016:
Thanks mchd and Phil. I've read the description sent by Phil but it seems like it's a Professor's personal choice to use "anapathomopathologie" instead of the more widespread "anatomopathologie" ("ou anatomopathologie, mais c'est pas tout à fait un très bon terme d'après le prof")
Would anyone be able to explain the difference. Thanks
mchd Feb 25, 2016:
Bien d'accord, il s'agit bien d'anapathomopathologie
philgoddard Feb 25, 2016:
No, not a typo It's defined on page 3 here:

StefanoFarris Feb 25, 2016:
Typo ? IMHO it is a typo. For
anatomopathologie of course.

Note from asker:
Hi Liz, that was what I was leaning towards but just discovered this new sub-specialty which deals with genetics: "Molecular Genetic Pathology" http://www.pathology.northwestern.edu/medical-specialties/molecular-pathology.html Do you think it might work in this context as we are talking about genes? Thanks

pathology

Aside from these different spellings, what is being reported here is a case of ALK-negative adenocarcinoma (ALK is a gene that can be mutated in cancer). In England, the term used would be "histopathology" rather than "anatomic pathology", but given the reference to a gene, this implies that a molecular analysis has also been done. Hence I would simply use the catch-all term "pathology"

to Joanna1: "molecular pathology" would work best in the UK but this would be adding information that is not strictly in the French source term
Note from asker:
Thanks dwt2. Could "molecular genetic pathology be used in this context? http://www.pathology.northwestern.edu/medical-specialties/molecular-pathology.html or is this a very US term?
