French term

franche occlusion

French to English Medical Medical (general) Abdominal CT scan
Hello colleagues,

I'm wondering if this means "clear" or "obvious" occlusion.

Context:
Progression de la maladie métastatique au niveau hépatique, péritonéale et pulmonaire. Pas de franche occlusion.

Thanks!

Peer comment(s):

agree Anne Schulz : Just noted from your comment that, in fact, the statement might refer to intestinal obstruction. Took it automatically to refer to biliary occlusion, but it does not say so, and in that case, 'obstruction' is the preferable "multi-purpose" term :-)

frank occlusion

The EN adjective "frank" may be entirely appropriate here. See for example https://books.google.co.uk/books?id=9JbKA8aHGcgC&pg=PA395&lp...

Hmm... thanks dwt2. Now I wonder. I'm hoping others will help with the selection process here!
Peer comment(s):

neutral liz askew : sorry, jury is out, "occlusion" is to do with blood vessels in the references, so "obstruction" is the correct term, IMHO

Agree but was not sure from context whether BV or gut was being referred to

evident occlusion

Or, less common, "no manifest occlusion". Your own suggestion of "no obvious occlusion" may work as well, IMHO.

liz askew is right, in that 'obstruction' is the preferable option. I automatically took the statement to refer to blockage of bile ducts, but it is so vague that intestinal blockage (obstruction) has to be included in the possible meanings.
