French term

capital veineux

French to English Medical Medical (general) patient record
Hi everyone!

TGIF!

Here is the original sentence: "en raison d'un capital veineux précaire, la Tazocilline a été remplacée par Ciflox"

would this be "venous pool" or "venous capital" or something else?

Thanks

Discussion

Sue Davis Mar 25, 2017:
Perhaps précaire could be translated as poor, though fragile seems used a lot in the context of poor venous access. What do other people think?
Sue Davis Mar 25, 2017:
As indicated I think a problem with venous access is implied, but IMO the phrase capital veineux précaire refers to the reason behind that, structurally suboptimal fragile) veins.
joanna menda (asker) Mar 25, 2017:
poor venous access This antibiotic therapy was given when the patient had a PAC and continued after the ablation of the PAC. Could it therefore be "poor venous access"? Thanks

frail/fragile venous network

capital veineux seems to refer to the structural quality/integrity of the venous system

http://www.daflon.fr/une-maladie-du-capital-veineux/
Le capital veineux représente la qualité des structures de l’ensemble du réseau veineux

It is not clear from the context provided but as Tazocilline is administered by perfusion
http://www.onmeda.fr/medicament/tazocilline-93691944.html

is the text suggesting that perfusion was avoided because of fragile veins and Ciflox was administered by a different route e.g. orally? just an educated guess, perhaps there is more info in the source document

Particular care should be taken with venepuncture and insertion of i.v.cannulae because of atrophy of skin and subcutaneous tissue, and fragility of veins.
