Good evening!
I am translating a pathology report regarding the colon and caecum and have come across this awkward phrase. Is anyone able to help with the translation?
Thank you!

restricted to the basal two-thirds of the epithelial cells
Hesitated about posting this because don't want to "split hairs" ! But it is I think more precise, avoiding confusion around the meaning of "inferior" in this context. See for example this description of colonic adenomas- http://www.pathologyoutlines.com/topic/colontumoradenoma.htm...

Inflammatory changes in the epithelium can mimic some dysplastic lesions and ... layer cells extend from one-third to nearly two-thirds of the epithelial height.
