In one novel aspect, the BSR is handled for each MAC entity according to one or more allocation rules. The allocation rule is derived from a configuration parameter of the split threshold, which is a threshold value for the size of available data for transmission. If the size of the total available data for transmission at the UE is smaller than the split threshold, the BSR split is not configured and the BSR is only transmitted through one MAC entity. Therein, the data and BSR are only transmitted for a macro cell group, MCG, or for a secondary cell group, SCG. In one embodiment, the allocation rule is configured by the network. In another embodiment, the allocation rule is determined by the UE based on historic statistics.
