Volgens het Juridisch Lexicon is 'information society' een correcte vertaling, ook als het gaat om een commerciele onderneming. Buiten de vertaling van het Nederlandse Burgerlijk Wetboek vind ik daar nochtans geen bevestiging van. Elk oorspronkelijk Engelstalig gebruik van 'information society', zoals door Unesco, is in een niet-commerciele betekenis van de maatschappij en niet een bedrijf dat informative verwerkt. Ik wilde daar graag opinies over.

You may be misunderstanding the English word "society", which is not the same as "company". But I agree with writeaway that we can't answer your question without context.

I understand it, the term "informatiemaatschappij" never refers to a company in the BW texts, but to the society aspect. So when JurLex translates it as:

informatiemaatschappij = information society

As do FELOnline, and the Warendorf translation of the BW (which I also own), they are referring to the larger phrase:

"dienst van de informatiemaatschappij" or "diensten van de informatiemaatschappij"

Which is defined as:
