...Guessing - but this seems like a possible candidate.

Agree measurements will encompass liquids and gases and is a better term if those are involved in your context.

Will also encompass speeds, etc.

Dimensions apply to solid objects only but the term "dimensions" is very widely, if not almost universally, used in respect of solid objects (particularly in engineering-related tenders and drawings) in preference to the term "measurements". So one would describe the dimensions of an object rather than its measurements. So it is, in fact, a very concrete term in such a context. IMHO talking about spiritual dimensions when we are dealing with a tender document is a red-herring in this discussion, Jarry.

: That should be 'measurements' methinks. See for instance: http://thinkmetric.org.uk/

and methinks measurements and dimensions are much of a muchness. Main point is: use the metric system, please.

: I don't think it's all about costs! More probably it's about meters, kilograms or kilometers since the use of the metric system is requested! So: "please use metric system with mention of averages"

Thanks, lipabel. At the end of the day, a tender document is about costs, though. Maybe they're saying don't quote me your largest widget or your most exclusive alternative - give me your garden variety average solution to my problem in metric units.
