Trazido pelas marés Nice touch from expressisverbis implying that the driftwood itself was "sculpted" by erosion and "desgaste" by the action of the waves. Nevertheless it is almost impossible to ascertain whether Odin "gave life" to these two pieces of driftwood of different species, or whwther he fashioned them into the semblance of a man and a woman. As a woodworker I would like to think he had some part in it rather than just breathing life into the two pieces of driftwood. But watever! Its all magic anyway...right? And a bit nicer than just scooping up a load of clay and fashioning Adam and then chucking his rib away and along comes Eve. Fundemental differences maybe on how Norse and Christian mythologies view women? Anyway what do I know :-)

That is precisely my point. When we read a text, our perception is shaped by our recognition and cognitive references (irrespective most times of the context). Therfore the descriptors "trazido pelo mar" in this context (simply because of the imagery it generates) is significantly more conducive to a coherent interpretation of the text. IMHO that is :-)
