breadcrumbs

GBK English to Romanian Tech/Engineering Internet, e-Commerce
Breadcrumbs are a type of web navigation where current location within the website is indicated by a list of pages above the current page in the hierarchy, up to the main page. It not only shows users where they are currently located in the site's architecture, but it also lets them back up levels one at a time. It is a recursive path.
Example sentences:
On websites that have a lot of pages, breadcrumb navigation can greatly enhance the way users find their way around. In terms of usability, breadcrumbs reduce the number of actions a website visitor needs to take in order to get to a higher-level page, and they improve the findability of website sections and pages. (mashing Media GmbH)
Breadcrumbs give users an alternative method of navigation, allow them to see where they stand in the hierarchy of a website, and will reduce the number of steps needed to navigate to a higher-level within a website. Breadcrumb navigation was expected to be a global characteristic—that is, a site would either provide breadcrumb navigation on its pages or not. However, breadcrumbs would occasionally be present on some, but not all, pages along the sample path. (Heidi P. Adkisson)

http://www.wordreference.com/enro/breadcrumbs

“A type of text-based Web site navigation that breaks the site into links of categories and sub-categories allowing major categories of information to be linked in a range of sequential order. Breadcrumb navigation is displayed to the user, so they can easily see exactly where that Web page is located within the Web site. While many types of use a breadcrumb navigation, it is becoming increasingly common for electronic commerce Web sites to display categories of products in this way.”
http://www.webopedia.com/TERM/b/breadcrumb_navigation.html

“The nickname for a top navigation menu that uses a string of section names to identify where you are. For example, when searching for cell phone product reviews on CNET.com, you will see the following "breadcrumbs" just beneath the top level navigation:
> Home > Reviews > Cell Phones and Accessories > All Cell Phones
Likened to the practice of leaving breadcrumbs behind you when you go hiking on a new trail or wandering through the wilderness, these top navigation links help you find your way back to where you started by following them in reverse order.”
http://www.netlingo.com/word/breadcrumb.php

“A description of the trail you took to arrive at your current location. Text breadcrumbs are common on Web sites to help users navigate the site. For example, breadcrumbs such as Products->TVs->Plasma indicate that the Plasma TV Products page you are looking at was retrieved by first clicking Products, then TVs and then Plasma. From Hansel and Gretel The term comes from the Hansel and Gretel fairy tale by the Brothers Grimm. When their father took them into the woods to abandon them, the children dropped crumbs of bread along the way to leave a trail back home.”

“Definition: Bread crumbs are a basic navigational tool used on many Web sites. You'll see them at the top of the browser window.
Bread crumbs are links to the pages you've already been to in order to get to the page that you are currently on. They are a "trail" for you to figure out where you've been, basically. Bread crumbs can look like this:
Home-->Computing & Technology-->Web Search
Examples: "I used the bread crumbs to figure out where I was five minutes ago."”
http://websearch.about.com/od/2/g/bread-crumbs.htm

“Breadcrumbs typically appear horizontally across the top of a web page, usually below title bars or headers. They provide links back to each previous page the user navigated through to get to the current page or—in hierarchical site structures—the parent pages of the current one. Breadcrumbs provide a trail for the user to follow back to the starting or entry point. A greater-than sign (>) often serves as hierarchy separator, although designers may use other glyphs (such as »), as well as various graphical treatments.”

Navigare “breadcrumb”

'fir'.

“Marcajele traseului de navigare”

Definition from ABOUT.com:
