Discussion

Steffen Walter Feb 13, 2012:
Thank you for your input, David I've just reclassified the question to "Law" on the basis of your compelling arguments.
David Wright Feb 13, 2012:
Distinction In think a distinction should be made here betwen Rechnungslegung in the sense of accounting as Liz has interpeted it (and which lies behind the category switch from law to business/finance), and the term as used in actions for infringements of patent/trademark/copyright etc where the plaintiff needs to know details of the infringer's revenue/expenses etc for the infringing object in order to be able to calculate the damages he can claim. There is also the term Rechnung legen meaning to bill, which is again different.

provide information and render accounts

means that the defendant must also provide details such as who he supplied, and submit accounts as to expenditure, revenue etc.

Rechnungslegung comes up in practically every second court submission I have had to translate and it is clear from the further discussion in the submission that rendering accounts is what is meant.

provide/supply/furnish information about sales and accounts/billing

This is certainly details about customers and more specifically - I would think - billing (as opposed to expenditure and the like)
Peer comment(s):

disagree David Wright : Rechnungslegung is very definitely NOT accounts/billing; (though I now see where this has derived from)

Your distinction (above) persuades me that it is accounts and not billing
