sensitometric [film] strips

strips of film [pre-] exposed with a graduated or steppped sequence of exposure increments. When processed, the resulting density curve (as eyeballed or preferably measured/plotted with a densitomer) provides objective information about the characteristics of the photographic process (exposure/ emulsion/ processing/ viewing).

agree John Kinory (X) : You can't have 'eyeballed' and 'objective' in the same sentence ; from a LOT of hands-on experience!
