From a document on protection of nuclear facilities: "Het voorliggende plan EBO is van toepassing op de Nucleaire Facilities Sloegebied (NFS)." I can't find 'sloegebied' in GVD. Plenty of hits on Google, but I can't find a definition. Anyone come across this before?

Winkler Prins Encyclopedie (9e editie):
"Sloe -- arm van de Westerschelde, in de Nederlandse prov. Zeeland, vormt een inham in de zuidkust van het overgangsgebied tussen Walcheren en Zuid-Beveland. Aanvankelijk stond het Sloe naar het noorden toe in verbinding met het Veerse Gat. De afsluiting vond plaats in 1871 door de aanleg van een dam ten behoeve van de spoorlijn Middelburg-Goes. Aan de zuidzijde van de dam is in 1949 de Quarlespolder bedijkt. Het door indijking ontstane Sloegebied (1962 vv.; 2300 ha) biedt ruimte aan chemische, petrochemische en metallurgische industrie; voorts bevindt zich er de kerncentrale van Borssele en een containerhaven (1971). De haven is toegankelijk voor schepen tot 50 000 ton".

I didn't realise that the Sloe was a geographical feature, just took 'Sloegebied' to be yet another neologism. If I'd fished once in a different section of the Schelde, I might have known ;-)"

"Tussen het Sloegebied, het havengebied ten oosten van Vlissingen, en het hoofdspoor Middelburg-Goes wordt een nieuwe enkelsporige spoorverbinding aangelegd." I think that "het havengebied ten oosten van Vlissingen" is another name for Sloegebied. So there's your answer.

: I would have said "Sloegebied (Harbour Area close to the city Vlissingen). I would have left the term itself untranslated as it is a proper name.
