My name is Rosie Pinhorn and I describe myself as bilingual, German and English. Originally from way in the past, I am from Germany, where I grew up and went to school. But I have lived and worked and functioned on this island for over twenty years now.
By training I am a teacher of modern foreign languages and in years gone by I have taught German and French at secondary modern school. Having been out of teaching for a long time, I successfully completed a Return to Teaching course in summer 2010, only to decide that I would rather do somtehing else with my time, namely use my language skills for reading, translating, writing, editing and proofreading. The link to my website, linguatrans.co.uk, provides more information. Apart from teaching I have also worked in an office in admin, in a hospital with critically ill patients and with children.
As far as translation goes, I have translated texts into German or from German on and off over the last few years, anything from golf manuals to references. I have also edited and proofread texts for business and private customers.
But it is only fairly recently that I have started to embark on translations in earnest and I have thus launched a website and continue to translate German and Austrian literature into English. The latter has been my occupation for the last two years, but I have, alas, not been able to publish anything yet. I shall continue to try, because reading is my passion and I read a great deal of international literature from all over the world.
There are though other topics that I specialize in, like the arts, including music (I play the Clarsach harp and am thus familiar with some musical terminology), and other performing arts, humanities, especially history, education/paedagogy, media, humanitarian subjects, travel and tourism. I will look at other subject areas, because I am keen on learning and widening my horizon. I strongly refute the notion that I am too old to learn, acquire new skills or work.
I am also interested in other languages, like Spanish and Italian, but, as with French, they will need a lot of additional work before I am able to use them in a professional manner.
Additionally there are my family and my pets, two cats and a dog (border collie, and no, I am not training for the Olympics and I will not allow him to outsmart me) who give me a lot of pleasure and the garden, who provides us with food.
