What I prefer about the laptop Jan 24, 2011

is the touch pad. It's better for my hands and arms than working with the mouse on the right or left side. When I'm thinking about switching to a desktop, it's because of the bigger and more flexible screen.

Laptop hooked to a monitor Jan 24, 2011

I work on a laptop so I can work outside or when I'm on a trip.
I hook it to a large monitor when I am at the office - which allows me, then, to have 2 monitors (using the extended desktop feature).

I also prefer the laptop keyboard (although it goes against all ergonomic rules!).

Laptop Jan 24, 2011

My mobility is greater with a laptop, and its screen is (presentl) larger than my desktop monitor. But even with a larger monitor I believe that I will still prefer working on my laptop....

Desktop Jan 24, 2011

when I am in my office (obviously) because I have two 32" monitors with high resolution graphic cards, when I work in our living room (occassionally) then I use my 18" Laptop and for one of my other speicialised customer, I also have a 15" Laptop that runs on Windows XP. But at the end of the day, my Desktop computer is the main work tool.

I rarely work away from my office, where I have two 32-inch screens, a deliciously comfortable chair, a lovely view, and oh yes, a couple of hundred hardcopy dictionaries at my fingertips. And I much prefer the desktop keyboard.

Desktop for sure Jan 24, 2011

Being measured on the same scale is good for laptops, and might signal how the future of PCs would be. I like spacious workspace, Wide Screen, handy keyboard, and my mouse on my right, not near my lap!

Even when choosing a laptop, I mind these criteria carefully, heading for the Desktop-replacement (DTR) category.

I worked for about 7 years with a laptop. great mobility but
keyboard and screen too small
performance: you cannot use a laptop for 12 hours a day 7/7, it is basically too much for it.

SO now i have a desktop (MAC) and I keep my laptop when I am visiting my mother and I spend my (pseudo)holiday there.

Laptop Jan 24, 2011

Although I always work at my office desk, I prefer using a laptop these days.

When I moved to Greece a couple of years ago, I transferred all my data to my relatively new laptop with 17" screen. That proved to be a wise decision, since using a laptop allows me to continue working when we experience the occasional power cut, which may last from just a few minutes to over an hour, if the electricity company is working on any new lines in the neighbourhood.

Instead of the integrated keyboard and mousepad I use an ergonomic keyboard and mouse.

Because I haven/t got one yet. It is on my "invest in my business" list, and I hope I'm getting there. I prefer laptops because my family needs me to move around the flat, and I can work on it at night without waking anybody

while the screen is small, I do prefer the keyboard with touchpad, much more comfortable than the mouse or trackball. And I don't have to sit at my desk which is also easier on my neck. i enjoy the freedom of movement. I plan on getting another screen to plug it into but I am managing fine.

I chose 'Other' because... Jan 24, 2011

Desktop because... Jan 24, 2011

... I don't like the scrunched up position laptops force your arms into, nor the fiddly mouse pad thing that always gives me wrist ache. I also use the number pad quite a lot, for numbers and foreign character codes, which laptops don't normally have.

I once used a laptop dock thingy while abroad, which was great. It sort of turns your laptop into a desktop.

Cheers

Simon
