Was too quick Jan 5, 2011

I said over 300 but it is actually way over 500: between registration, travel and accommodation, each seminar costs me about 1,000 EUR (1326.9639 USD at this very moment).

sit down and read Jan 5, 2011

There are a few useful training courses (Wordfast or Trados basics) but if I have to learn things concerning translation and my specialty, it is more important to find the right book, the right article and to take time to understand ...
Maybe this is because I have a degree in translation to start with ...

Depends on the year Jan 5, 2011

Sometimes I do free courses, right now I am doing an MA and therefore paying more than 500 EUR a year.

'Training courses' or 'Training'? Jan 5, 2011

Although I don't often attend formal courses, having attended a one year distance learning university course a couple of years ago, I do participate regularly in webinars, read plenty of articles and books and use it all to develop and implement ideas on how to enhance my translation and business skills further. So my answer would have been different if the poll question had referred to 'Training' full stop.

I have never really find the perfect training course, so I'm reading a lot: books, magazines, press articles.
Read, read, read, that would be my moto)

Professional and academic conferences but not courses Jan 5, 2011

If there's something I want to learn about, I can usually find a way to learn it without a course (through books, articles, websites, videos, etc.).

However, I do attend conferences (usually one per year), and I've learned a lot from the sessions I've attended and the people I've met there.

Why Jan 5, 2011

...should we need training courses? Probably only users of such queer programs like Wordfast and Trados, invented by people who have no idea, what translating is.
