Hi all,
I am a British national currently studying German and doing one of my degree years at a University in Germany. I know that I would like to go into Translation and am therefore looking for a small summer course before I go into my Masters in Translation. Considering I also love travelling, I have always wanted to spend some time in the USA. Therefore, I thought it would be great to combine the two and try and find a summer course in the USA for Translation. But I'm finding it difficult to find anything, does anyone know of a good course anywhere in the States?
Thanks in advance for your help,
Fern
You should be aware that university courses are expensive in the US, and getting more so by the minute. I recently asked about an online graduate certificate course - i.e. not even ending in a master's degree, in ESL on a whim at a renowned US university. I've taught quite a bit of English in companies over the years and enjoy it, and thought it might be a nice second pillar to base my business as a good balance, i.e. working with people sometimes rather than only interacting with my monitor. The reply floored even me as an American. The university quoted a per credit fee (normal for the US) and it worked out to about $42,000 !! For a non-degree certificate! I said that was utterly ridiculous when I could get an excellent, basically free university education in Germany. Attending a good university/college in the US has become a privilege that only the well-to-do can afford (unless you can get a scholarship), and the tuition fees are climbing because of the difficult economic environment and other, more political reasons I won't go into here. It's a sad reality, so be prepared for it should you decide to pursue this avenue. Good luck in any case.
