I thought this might be useful for us translators. Microsoft has a new service for small businesses that in theory sounds appealing to say the least. Among its features:
Free domain name and web-hosting.
Easy-to-use Web site design tools
500 MB of Web site storage space
25 company-branded e-mail accounts
Web site reports
Search advertising tool with $50 credit*
I signed up and I'm waiting for my domain to be approved. In the meantime I'm working on the design and content. The interface seems easy to use although there's not a lot of room for customization, which I'm very anal about. Also, the email is available via the Microsoft Live portal, even though they advertise that it can be accessed with smartphone/blackberries too; I still haven't figured out how to that. One of the things that bothers me the most about it is the lack of information. Maybe it is there, but is very well-hidden.
I supposed Microsoft wants to tempt people with the free service so they eventually upgrade to the paid-options, fair enough. They do require a credit card in order to sign up, for "verification purposes". I just started to check it out so I'd love to know if anybody else has tried it.

Looks interesting

Thanks for bringing this to our attention Claudia. Looks interesting. I'm planning to go freelance next year, and this could be what I'm after, mostly for e-mail requirements, but the website options also look good. I was planning to get a domain name and email through Google Apps for small businesses, but that costs £10 (per year I think) to register the domain name.

Please keep us informed

Thanks for the information. Please let us know what you think when you've finished setting it up. Although I too would be concerned about the inflexibility you mention... I've been telling myself for ages I'm going to get myself my own domain... when I get round to it (never seem to).
Cheers,
Alan
