Translation - English Aria Durch zartlichkeit und schmeicheln from opera Die Enfuhrung aus dem Serail
Comic opera in three acts Die Enfuhrung aus dem Serail, written by Gottlieb Stephanie and composed by Mozart, debuted in public at Burger Theatre in Vienna on 16 July 1782, causing a great sensation. It was Mozart’s first comic masterpiece from both perspectives of pure music and opera. His playscript, beyond the scope of singspiel, manifested the characteristic of the Age of Enlightenment and humanism. And his music structure made a new breakthrough with music itself as the plot of a drama. Thus the stories moving forward through arias and ensembles were presented in the music. Characters in the play were no longer limited to one genre but the roles with emotion and personality. They were lovers, servants, guards and kings, every one of whom was indeed a living figure.
This opera, brimmed with beauty of youth, was a monument for in the adolescence of Mozart, because on 4 August, shortly after the debut of this opera, Mozart married his beloved Constance, that is to say, the period when this opera was created witnessed the happiest Mozart in his short life. At that time, after getting rid of the control of tyrannical archbishop and settling down in the City of Freedom- Vienna, the young composer obtained the love of Constance, so his blessed mood was reflected in this work and the heroine in this opera was also called Constance.
It was a fashion then to place the arena in the oriental country of Turkey. Mozart gave full play to the interest of that theme and composed an animated comedy. With focus on the role of Guard OSMIN and effective use of triangle, brass cymbal and piccolo, this opera successfully brewed a Turkish exotic fun. Such element as coloratura aria or combination of Italian music and play acting shown in the pair of Pedrillo and Blonde and French comic opera seen at the end of Act 3 were all resulted from skillful application of singspiel style then by Mozart and created his distinct music style.

The Classic Period of Greece was between 500 to 300 B.C. A time of great creativity and ingenuity, this Golden Age dazzled with art, literature, political and architectural accomplishments, the foundation from which modern civilization is built. With its collection of classic ruins, the Acropolis, the greatest icon of ancient Athens, reflects the elegance and engineering prowess of its illustrious heritage: the Erectheion with its graceful “Porch of the Caryatids (Maidens),” the wondrous Temple of Athena Nike, and the most exalted of all structures, the epic Parthenon. The Parthenon, a colossal white marble Doric temple dedicated to Athena, Goddess of Wisdom, began construction in 447 B.C. and continued until 438 B.C., and represented the height of creativity and power of the Golden Age of Greece.
The Plaka is the oldest section of Athens. Developed around the ruins of Ancient Agora, it has been continually inhabited since the time of antiquity. Despite its history, the area’s vibe feels fresh and new. Once the nightclub district, today it is a favorite shopping area punctuated by jewelry stores, curio shops, eateries and flower vendors. Street performers and musicians often stroll the alleyways, and delight visitors with their lively acts. Blending its contemporary flare with its fascinating past, a day spent in Athens captivates all who experience its treasured historic landmarks, renowned museums and modern streets ablaze with color and life.
Ruins of an ancient empire
Forum Romanum began humbly as a marsh and grew into the most famous meeting place in all of history. The Forum was the center of Roman life, housing temples to forgotten gods and the famed Roman Senate. If one were quiet and close one’s eyes, one might hear the insistent tromping of gladiator procession, impassioned speeches from emperors, trials, festivals and plottings, evil to benign. By 100 A.D., Rome was earth’s first city to reach one million.
Vineyards, vino and villages
Gently rolling hills, quaint farmhouses and fragrant vineyards will greet you in the Tuscan countryside. Superb wines are produced in this beautiful district, with its fortuitous combinations of soil, climate, and Sangiovese, Canaiolo and Malvasia bianca grapes. Wine tastings invite you to savor the “fruit of the vine.” The petite country villages of Tuscany welcome you to their historic city centers.
Nynäshamn’s idyllic and secluded setting among picturesque forests, unspoiled beaches and endless seascapes make it a perfect retreat from the country’s capital. Spend a day in this beautiful city and create a lifetime of memories, bathed in the glow of its storied history, bustling
piazzas and world-class art and architecture.

Herbaceous
Denotes the taste and smell of herbs in a wine.
A plus in many wines such as Sauvignon Blanc, and to a lesser extent Merlot and Cabernet.
Malolacti Fermentation
A secondary fermentation in which the more-tart malic acid is converted into softer lactic acid and carbon dioxide.
Malolactic fermentation, which generally follows the alcoholic fermentation, is nearly always carried out in red wines.
Some producers of white wines encourage malolactic fermentation, while others, especially those in hot regions that produce grapes with low levels of acidity, avoid it in order to retain the wine's freshness.
Sulfur
The most common disinfectant for wine.
Most winemakers feel that it is nearly impossible to produce stable wine without judicious use of sulfur products at one or more stages of vinification: just after the harvest to thwart fermentation by the wrong yeasts, in the cellar to prevent microbial spoilage and oxidation and at the time of bottling to protect the wine against exposure to air.
Acidity
The sharp lively quality characteristic of high-grown coffee, tasted mainly at the tip of the tongue.
The brisk, snappy quality that makes coffee refreshing.
It is not the same as bitter or sour and has nothing to do with pH factors.
Coffees are low in acidity, between five and six on the pH scale.
Cappuccino
Cappuccino gets its name from the Italian order of Catholic Capuchin monks, whose hooded robes resemble the drink's cap of foam in shape and color.
The frothed milk from the top of the steaming pitcher is spooned on top to "cap" the cappuccino and retain heat.
The proportion of espresso to steamed and frothed milk for cappuccino is usually 1/3 espresso, 1/3 steamed milk and 1/3 frothed milk on top.

Source text - English Mini lot
Some people do not have a trading capital of $10,000 and so brokers are able to offer a different position size for traders with less capital to start with. They do this by subdividing the standard lot contract into ten; this is known as a mini lot. A mini lot equates to 10,000 units of the base currency. This means that a mini lot has a value of roughly $1 per pip. If you open a trade with a 20 pip stop loss; this means that a losing trade is $20.
Leverage
Leverage is a tool that traders use as a way to increase returns on their initial investment. One reason that the forex markets are so popular amongst investors is because of the easy access to leverage. However, when factoring in spreads and commissions, traders must be careful of their use of leverage because this can inflate the costs of each trade to unmanageable levels.
Overnight positions
When trades are held overnight there is another cost that should be factored in by the trader holding the position. This cost is mainly centred on the forex market and is called the overnight rollover. Every currency you buy and sell comes with its own overnight interest rate attached. The difference between the two interest rates of the currencies you are trading will give you the cost of holding the position overnight. These rates are not determined by your broker, but at the Interbank level.
Using trend lines or channels
Another common method to place a stop loss is by using a trend line or a channel. Place your stop loss just outside of the channel, above or below the trend line. Once a channel has been established, it is unlikely the price will move outside, which means that you can use either the upper or lower boundaries to place your stop loss. If the price does break through the channel, then it is likely that the channel is breaking down and no longer valid. One frequently used option to set the stop loss is outside of the upper or lower boundary of the channel.
Time-based stop losses
A non-technical tool that can be used for placing a stop loss is the time-based method. The concept of this stop loss depends on how much time a trader is willing to hold a trade. A pre-determined amount of time is set and after that time has elapsed, the position is closed. A time-based stop loss is a stop loss that initiated after a certain amount of time has lapsed and allows you to seek a better market for your capital.
They are used if the market does not seem to be moving in either direction, meaning neither your stop loss nor profit target has been hit. The reason why traders use a time-based stop loss is that if the markets do not seem to be moving in either direction and neither your stop loss nor the profit target has been hit, after a set period of time you can close down that trade in order to seek a better one for your trading capital. If the market price does not move significantly in either way, there would seem to be no advantage in keeping it open.
It is important to note that with trailing stops and time-based stop losses, money management rules still apply and should be used in conjunction with a pre-determined stop loss and profit target.

Source text - English A XXX cut grade is influenced mostly by the diamond’s proportions. If one proportion factor is more extreme than the others, it can lower the cut grade of an otherwise well-cut diamond. An extremely large table facet, a very steep crown, a very deep pavilion, or a thick girdle can reduce a diamond’s cut grade significantly. The first step in any proportion evaluation is to determine the diamond’s average girdle diameter. This measurement is the basis for comparing the diamond’s other proportions. You determine it by adding the smallest and largest diameter measurements of a round brilliant and dividing by two.
Average girdle diameter
To determine a round brilliant’s average girdle diameter, you have to measure it from one edge of the girdle directly across to the opposite edge. Diamonds are always measured in millimeters, so use a millimeter gauge for accurate measurements. Since no stone is perfectly round, take several diameter measurements. Add the smallest and largest diameters and then average them by dividing the result by two. When using average girdle diameter to calculate a diamond’s proportions, use the result to the thousandths place.
Stones cut from shallow rough often have shallow crown angles because the cutters tried to get the most weight along with the largest girdle diameter and greatest face-up size from them. As a result, stones with shallow crown angles also tend to have large tables, thin girdles, and shallow pavilions. Most modern round brilliant diamonds with steep crown angles have either a large table which creates a flat top or a high crown. The high crown adds weight but contributes nothing to girdle diameter. With a diamond like this, the extra weight of the crown doesn’t necessarily make the stone look larger. Crown angles that are uneven from one side to the other often result in an off-center table, causing an unbalanced appearance. Crown angle variations are considered when determining a diamond’s symmetry rating.
During fashioning, the polisher sometimes uses weight-saving techniques called painting and digging out to change the angles of the upper and lower half facets in relation to the horizontal plane. Severe painting and digging out can result in significant thickness differences between adjacent hill positions and cause uneven scalloping around the diamond’s girdle. Painting is a process of very light polishing that allows the cutter to gently polish away less thickness at selected locations around the girdle. When painting, the cutter tilts the upper or lower half facets toward the bezel facets or pavilion mains. In a painted diamond, the hill positions where the upper half facet junctions meet the lower half facet junctions are thicker than those where the bezel facets meet the pavilion main facets.

English to Chinese: An academic essay about linguistics General field: Art/Literary Detailed field: Linguistics
Source text - English Before investigating the question of whether the Chinese character script has much to fear from the advances of the Roman alphabet in East Asia, it is important to make a few distinctions.
Firstly, the linguistic issue of whether a phonographic script is superior to a logographic one for recording a language is not the issue here. It is of course worthy of consideration when trying to assess possibilities for script reform, but it does not provide conclusions regarding practical implementation. Theoretically, few scholars would dispute the logical advantages of employing a phonographic script for a language. In areas such as learning speed, equality of access to information, ordering, and electronic input, processing, and retrieval, there is little disagreement to the merits of a phonographic script.
Secondly, the issue of whether a phonetic script can accurately represent the languages currently written with Chinese characters is one which has received a great deal of attention. It seems logical to say that if a spoken language can be intelligible to speakers of the same language without confusion, then it can be represented using a phonographic script faithful to its separate phonemes. In this case, homonyms (a matter of concern to many regarding East Asian languages) would be no more confusing in context than when spoken.
Indeed, one of the purposes of the International Phonetic Alphabet (IPA) is to establish such as phonographic framework. However, for the same reasons as above, attention given to this issue still can’t lead to a solution to the question in hand. This is not to say that it does not serve a purpose. If the consensus were that a phonographic script could not adequately covey these languages, due to concerns such as tone, ambiguity, or an absence of ‘words’ as opposed to syllables, then we hardly need to continue with the issue of the danger it would pose to Chinese characters. More relevantly, this second issue points to the debate over which phonographic script is best suited for a language, and how the decision-making processes have affected the possibility of practical implementation of Roman script.
Thirdly, we cannot equate the Roman alphabet with phonographic script. The fact that a phonographic script may present a genuine threat to the use of Chinese characters does not mean that that script need be of western origin, and any assumption to that effect may be accused of ideological imperialism and ignorance of Asian circumstances. In East Asia, one need only look at the Hangeul of the Koreas, the kana of Japan, or the Perso-Arabic Uighur script to see that a number of other phonographic alternatives exist. There are coping strategies in place to deal with foreign names, places and technology, and we should expect these to present an avenue for Romanization just as much as Asian or Arabic terms present one for the introduction of those scripts in the West.

Source text - English “BUYING property is by far the safest investment you can make. House prices will never fall like share prices.” This is the advice offered countless estate agents around the globe. In the absence of attractive investment opportunities elsewhere, home buyers have needed little encouragement: from London to Madrid and from Washington to Sydney, rising house prices have been the hot topic of conversation at dinner parties. Over the past seven years, house prices in many countries have risen at their fastest rate ever in real terms. And now institutional investors are also eagerly shifting money from equities into commercial property. Many property analysts scoff at the suggestion that another bubble is in the making. House prices may have fallen after previous booms, but “this time is different”, they insist. That is precisely what equity analysts said when share prices soared in the late 1990s. They were proved wrong. Will the property experts suffer the same fate?
Yet, curiously, there has been much less economic research into the property market than into the stockmarket, the bond market or the foreign-exchange market. One reason is that until recently much of this property investment was held fairly passively. For most people a home was simply a place to live. For most firms offices were a necessary but relatively unimportant part of their infrastructure. Commercial property made up less than 5% of most institutional investors’ portfolios. But now many people, having lost faith in shares, see their home as an investment that will appreciate rapidly in value. Financial institutions are also pushing up the share of commercial property in their portfolios. To both sorts of investor, property seems to offer attractively high returns-as well as a safe haven in an increasingly risky world.
Betting the house
Over the past few years, house prices have been booming almost everywhere except Germany and Japan. Since the mid-1990s, house prices in Australia, Britain, Ireland, the Netherlands, Spain and Sweden have all risen by more than 50% in real terms. American house prices are up a more modest 30%, but that is still the biggest real gain over any such period in recorded history. Commercial-property prices in some big cities have also been looking rather frothy. These property booms have been partly driven by economic fundamentals, but bubble-like symptoms abound. Real-estate investment has even made it into a TV series, “The Sopranos”. In one recent episode, the wife of Tony, the Mafia boss, suggested he invest in a real-estate investment trust (a fund which enables small investors to buy commercial property). Many viewers took her advice.
Over the past ten years, the total return from buying a house (including the implicit rental income) has exceeded the return from shares in half the countries in chart 3. But these figures understate the possible gains from investing in property. Unlike equities, most homes are bought with borrowed money, and the resulting leverage can greatly lift the return on the initial stake (or increase any loss). Suppose you had invested $20,000 in shares, which after five years are now worth $40,000, including reinvested dividends, implying an annual return of 15%. Then suppose you had used the $20,000 as a deposit on a $100,000 house that over five years had risen in value by a more modest 7% a year, to $140,000. Assume, for simplicity, that mortgage-interest payments and maintenance costs exactly offset the rental income. The average annual return on your deposit would have been almost 25%.
