| Thanks, the context is super limited but in light of your comments, I'm guessing this team is in trouble. I don't think this is metaphorical, although the team does have to stake it all on this to win (probably hit a home run or something). I wasn't sure what the '9th' and the '2 outs' terms were refering to. Now I am, thanks! |

Baseball is not my game ! An American Proz member will no doubt help you better, but a web search suggests that this means the end of the ninth innings, (there are 9 players per team) with two players out (there's even a play about it - see first web link).

"bottom of the ninth" means that it is the home team's last turn at bat (unless there is a tie at the end of the ninth inning). There are three outs per inning, so "two outs" means that this would be the last player to go to bat, if he is not able to get a hit, i.e. a "do or die situation"
