I'm thinking of using "birth environment" (maybe environment at birth?). I know birth environment generally means childbirth environment, but I can't think of any other options.
Does anyone know if "habitat" is used in this context in English?

agree moken : That's right. Although the wording is misleading, when I've come cross the term and confirmed it with the authors it does actually refer to the place of residence, not birth. :O) :O)
