Spanish term

tamaño de efecto

Spanish to English Other Medical (general)
Hola!
¿A qué se refiere y qué significa un "tamaño de efecto"? en el siguiente contexto "se demuestra una fuerte relación entre estas variables (apoyo social y adherencia al tratamiento), con diferencias de tamaño de efecto de 0,65 entre pacientes que reciben y no reciben apoyo para sus tratamientos".
¿Alguna sugerencia?
Muchas gracias!

Muriel Vasconcellos Jan 24, 2011:
The two terms are close in meaning but there is a slight difference. Someone with a good knowledge of statistics would have to explain:

effect size

I'm pretty sure this is comparing the difference in values between two effect sizes (Which is the measure of the strength of correlation between two variables) Here are a couple references:

neutral Muriel Vasconcellos : The two terms are very close in meaning. I'd still be curious to see how you would translate the entire sentence (see my rendition in my answer below). I couldn't find a parallel rendition in the link you cited.

Check out the additional reference I posted, since effect size is a stastical term, I would say it just like it is said on this link
agree Zareh Darakjian Ph.D. : Effect size is the only correct translation here. This is a fixed, standard, "frozen", and correct term used in statistics. It may feel like it's misleading, or a misnomer, but this is what each and every ** good ** authoritative statistics textbook uses
