outer casing? housing?

Thanks Liz and jmleger But this isn't automotive or aviation; it's a domestic oil radiator (see my example)

outer shell/casing

The main body of the radiator is encased in a surrounding second outer shell, creating a chimney-like space in between the two.

The more common, older variety of radiating heater was the water heater, which boiled water in a high-pressure compartment, from which the heat moved into the radiator’s metal casing, and from there, into the air. - See more at: http://www.wincoil.com/oil-heater-running-costs/#sthash.lqMs...

Is it normal for a radiator to show traces of dirt?
This may be caused by the poor quality of the ambient air (pollution, cigarette smoke, etc.). It is advisable to check that the room is well ventilated and that the air is clean. The lower grid and front panel of the radiator should be vacuumed regularly. The casing of the radiator can be cleaned with a damp cloth, but never use an abrasive product.

To keep the heater clean, the outer shell may be cleaned with a soft, damp cloth. You may use a mild detergent if necessary. After cleaning, dry the unit with a soft cloth.
CAUTION: DO NOT let liquid enter the heater.

Peer comment(s):

agree Charles Davis : This is probably the best bet. I was wondering about the word "panel", since panel radiators are a standard type, but this is more suitable, I think.

Wall radiators have panels but I don't think that works for oil fuelled ones which can be wheeled from one place to another. Thank you, Charles :)
