From a Discharge Report of a 76-year-old male in Galicia, Spain, under "Antecedentes Personales":

- Independiente para ADVP. Vive en Nueva York pero es natural de Galicia. Tiene familia aquí y viene en verano.

I originally guessed ADVP was "adicto a drogas por via parenteral". But I can't really justify that with the phrasing or the context.

Now, since he lives in New York, I wonder if it is English and means "Adult Developmental Vocational Program". But that still sounds far-fetched.

I agree with Joseph These reports are usually dictated and then transcribed so the transcriber may have misheard ABVD (Actividades Básicas de la Vida Diaria)

possible typo Given the "independiente para" and where this comes in the text, I'd say they mean ADLs (Activities of Daily Living). That's the only thing that makes sense to me.

(David: I actually enjoy figuring out acronyms; they make for interesting little challenges. Then I send them to Cosnautas to make life easier for our colleagues in the future.)

I'm also seeing that this Adult Developmental Vocational Program only appears to be in North Carolina.
